Hi I'm John, loooong time smoker looking into ecigs to dump the sticks.
After looking around & finding this forum, I didn't there know would be so much
to learn so I figured I better sign up. At this point I'm trying to decide
between the Volt Basic Starter or the Pack Kit.

I'm sure I'll be back with a lot of questions for the pros!

Hi there, John, and welcome! I'm pretty new to this myself, but I can tell you that I ended up buying the Volt Pro Starter Kit, plus an extra battery so I'd have 3, and I love this little thing! It got me off smoking, so it's my best friend

You are sure to get MANY different opinions here, and it's really a personal decision as to what setup you want and what will work for you. I am having great success with my Volt, happy with the amount of money I spent, and I've been very pleased with the customer service I've received.

John,
I'm going to make a personal opinion that is a little intimidating for a beginner. Don't do either of these. Go with something like an ego twist. It allows you to dial in the settings that YOU like vs the settings companies think you will like. It will require more work to find out what you need, but if you're willing to spend a little more money and a little more time I think a variable volt device with tank options will keep you happier in the long run.

The setup I help new people purchase when looking at ecigs-
ego twist batteries (x2)
ego charger
cartomizers (2 ohm and 3 ohm) so you can figure which one you like
tank
juice

You can get this all to your door for around $100

I don't care for the volt personally. It's very expensive for such an underpowered device. It doesn't seem expensive until you get all the necessary accessories and their cartomizers are overpriced as well. You'll be charging the thing 2-3 times a day. You will see a lot of fanboys outspoken about it, but I don't get the hype. I have a different suggestion instead of the volt on my blog.

Perhaps I could convince you that, instead of making your decision tonight, you take the time to read The Vaper's Handbook and see how you feel about it after you know a little more about vaping. You will have to acquire at least 5 posts in order to read it though. (BTW: The volt is discussed in the blog)

Most of the reg models of ecigs are 3.7v or lower. The variable voltage allows you to go quite a bit higher you can just start low and dial your way up til you find what you like. It could be a cooler or hotter vape and lots of juices taste diff at diff voltages. If you go with at least an ego twist it is 510 threaded which gives you many more juice delivery devices and allows you to find what voltage is for you. The volt is 808 thread and is I think about 3.6v and battery life is low. Also the twist is relatively inexpensive for what you get. Pair it with a vivi nova and you will be happy. The hardest part is finding the perfect juices.

Ah perfect, thank you! I assume after the initial cost it'll be considerably cheaper than
60 bucks a week for a carton.

HI Old Curmedgwon, decide what your comfort level and goals are. I went with Volt, which I haven't found to be under pwoered but, hey, what do I know? I just wanted to get off the cigs because they were really slowing me down health wise and I didn't really want a new hobby so much. It is a minor hobby for me shopping for juices and buying a few new things here and there. I bought the bigger Smokeless Image batteries but I did that so I could have the passthrough that plugs into the car with an adapter. I actually use the 78mm cigarette looking ones when I am out and about in public.

Whatever your choice, I wish you luck on your vaping adventures and nice to see you here.

Oh, after your initial investment, you really can save money even if you don't DIY.

How does the voltage effect the experience? Also, what do you mean by experience?

Not all juices are created equal. Some juices taste more flavorful and a higher (or lower) voltage. Some juices that I didn't really care for and set aside when using a standard 3.7v battery are back in my rotation again because they simply taste better at a different voltage or with a different ohm. Higher voltage means a bigger and warmer vape. Better throat hit and all around better experience.

Somewhere in PA on my Ultra Limited
+1 Reno It is a personal journey to find what works best and it's different for everyone.

The reason people recommend the Volt is because it's about the best "stick" battery setup out there right now. The reason others will put it down is because a majority of folks eventually want more time on charge, more time between refills, ability to use LR (low resistance attys or cartos) which leads to bigger batteries 650mAh or bigger). Like a lot of them, I started with stick batts and thank god they were there to get me off smokes (33years 2PAD). No one has a crystal ball, but I wish I had some of the money back I spent on things I no longer use.

Remember, the best device is the one that works for you.

Brand on the twist is Joye. They'll cost about 22-27 dollars for a battery.

Variable volt is recommended because settings are adjustable. The more power (volts) the hotter the vapor which can mean a better throat hit/ more vapor.

The good- it's all adjustable.
The bad- there's a bigger learning curve.

Let us know if you need more info!

That's the one. I did some searching last night & that's the brand I'm looking into.
