(sorry if this isn't the right subforum. I think my battery is an eGo-styled model)

hello, all. I purchased a Kanger IPOW 2 1600 in the past 2 months and it's making a high-pitched, dog whistle-like sound every time I fire it. It's nothing to do with the tanks, as I've tried both my Nova and my Aerotank Mini with identical results. Should I be concerned and/or stop using this battery?

Never heard of this. Does it whistle without any clearo attached? (while depressing the button of course) If so, I'd likely throw it out.

I have *occasionally* heard my mod, I guess it was the battery, make a sound like that; not sure I'd call it a whistle, but a very high-pitched sound, but I figured it was just an anomaly of my super-sensitive hearing -- I hear high-pitched sounds very keenly, almost painfully. Other than that, the only time I've heard that sound is in that video I watched of a battery going thermal and exploding -- as it swells, it hisses and whistles, and the sound gets louder till it finally goes BOOM! fire everywhere. I think I'd be quite wary of a battery that always made that sound when used.

It only makes the sound with a tank attached. No sound whatsoever otherwise.

I hope it's harmonics from the circuitry and nothing dangerous. It's a very high-pitched, tinny sound, not unlike tinnitus, pitched up almost to the limits of my hearing, along with an accompanying whistle sound. I tried to get a recording with my phone but the microphone can't pick it up.

edit: By the way, beautiful guitar in your avatar DaveP. I've always wanted a goldtop LP with P90's.

the only thing i have ever run into that causes a whistling sound is airflow through an atomizer. try taking it apart and cleaning the threading with a Q-tip and alcohol.

yet another guitar player....:D. so how do you feel about pink Telecasters? don't laugh, Brad Paisley broke the color barrier .

Depending on the frequency of the electronics you may be hearing harmonics from the circuitry. Most are 33 or 66hz, but some go higher. Provari is 800hz voltage regulation. If you can hear harmonic ringing from the components you have excellent hearing.

ditto.
same voltage at different pulse widths to adjust the wattage.

I dig pink Teles, though they're not my first choice. I tend towards blonde Teles myself. I'm a big fan of a guitar that makes me look twice and challenge what a guitar 'should' look like.

I'm gonna try cleaning the threading and see if that does any good. But even if that doesn't, I should be safe continuing to use my IPOW, correct?

I have bought four Diamond Mist 1000 mAh EVOD VV batteries from a website here in the UK. All four makes an high pitched noise when in use, to the point that I cant use them for vaping. Because of the noise, because they works fine otherwise.
As I am in the design trade, I went curious to understand the problem. The circuit inside has a step-up converter, raising the 3.7 V provided by the battery to 5.5 Volts. There is a PWM circuit after, which partialize this DC voltage at 20 HZ to produce the Effect of the voltage shown on the spinner wheel.
The step-up circuit works in the audio frequency range. It uses ceramic capacitors for decoupling and filtering function in the circuit. The ceramic in these capacitor, depending on their make, has piezoelectric properties; if hrunk, produces a voltage; if a voltage is applied, it will vibrate mechanically following the voltage variations.
During the manufacture of these batteries, capacitors of the proper value have been used, but the dielectric material was different, of cheaper make, and it is highly piezoelectric. Some capacitors inside the battery will act as tiny loudspeakers. This type of disturbance is well documented on the Net. These capacitors are fated to an early failure, so I binned the batteries. I don't need more trouble than what I already have...
