I was thinking this could be a cool question. I know most people started vaping to quit cigarettes, I know alot of my friends did. I on the other hand, smoked cigars for a few years, and started really getting into hookah. My friend had a hookah that he would bring out almost every time I went over to his house and I was puffing cigars about 1 a day... I started vaping after going to a party and my good friend brought out his lavatube. After that it was over and I got pretty deep into vaping. I was just wondering if there's anybody else out there that started vaping for reasons other than to quit smoking cigs?

I had already quit smoking for 2 years. I quit with Swedish Snus. I've been smoke free since 2008. I switched to vaping because I couldn't order snus online due to the PACT act. Stinkin' government ! :D Now the cost of snus is ridiculous. My son's girlfriend lives in Sweden. So, I get hooked up when she visits :D I stopped vaping tobacco flavors. When I crave tobacco, I'll just pop in a snus ;)

I was a pipe smoker for many years. There is a lot ritual that goes along with smoking a pipe and I find that vaping fills some of those needs for me, not to mention the collecting aspect. I get to try different e-juice like I used to try different tobaccos. I started vaping three months ago today and haven't had a smoke since.

Yes! I had smoked in the past and it actually took me a couple of times to quit. I didn't even smoke that much and I was amazed at how hard it was to overcome the nicotine. The problem was even though I had overcome the nicotine, I still missed smoking. I missed the stress relief and holding the cigarette and how whenever I was stressed or thoughtful or just wanted a moment, I could take a break and do it.

I did a lot of research on vaping before I thought I would try it. To me, it brought back all the joy but without all of the problems with smoking.

And all I can say now is that I really luv it.

I had no thoughts of quitting smoking, was resigned to the fact that they'd probably kill me one way or another. But last winter was the coldest winter in 30 yrs, and I was damn tired of freezing to death just to go smoke a stupid cigarette! So I got interested in them, a friend of my husband's gave me a "fin," I thought it sucked; I bought an 'Njoy,' thought it sucked a lot less but sure didn't taste like a cigarette, got a blu and thought it sucked most of any of 'em. then I just got mad, and went to google searching for "e-cigarette" and up jumped this forum, exactly what I needed to be able to find a cigalike that suited me -- I got an eRoll, and finally found an ejuice that somewhat resembled the taste of my Slims, and was just absotively amazed at how few cigarettes I was smoking... and it got less and less and less... pretty soon I could see no reason to keep smoking 1 a day, so I quit. Had a brief relapse in the summer after my appendectomy, but after a month, got back to smoke-free, and have remained so for just over 8 months now. Hallelujah!

Basicly the prices of cigarette tax is what got me to change from my 20 year pack and a half of Marlboro lights. Started rolling my own to save cash as I was not about to spend 40 on a Carton of smokes.

Then seen someone selling a electronic cigarette on a game forum classified thread.. I was like what?

Year past and I realized I've been smoking for 20 years! Crap!! Afraid for my life I looked hard for thst thread I seen before on the ecig. Asked questions and did lots of research. Bought 2 titan joy 510 kits and my first hit on one was when I last smoked back on sep 22nd 2009. Never ever again touched a smoke.. was way too easy to quit and was always too afraid to try.

Vaping now has got to be real cheap for me as I make my own coils and my own juice hehe.. a couple of mechanical bottom fed mods (reo grands) and I'm all set!

My intention was never to quit nicotine. I started vaping because of the restrictions on cigarette smoking (where it is/isn't permitted) and due to the cost.
My youngest was a NICU baby due to respiratory issues.. both he & I had specialists over an hour away and having to pull over during the drive to/from our doctors, taking a break to smoke a cigarette outside of the vehicle while he was still inside..all of those inconveniences really led me to vaping. I can vape anywhere and at any time I choose with no risk of harm to him (or my other 2 kids).
I started vaping Dec 2013 and was 100% cigarette-free by April 2014 (not counting the few times I'd "bum" a smoke off a buddy while we were drinking and hanging out outdoors). I have been at 24mg nicotine the entire time and don't plan to ever decrease my mg.

Difficult to justify saving money by stopping smoking here in Indonesia. 20 Marlboro are around $1.30 a pack including tax !!! I just got fed up of coughing myself awake every morning, hoiking up an ounce of lung butter for 10 mins just so I could squeeze my morning ciggy in me.
Looking back on 30+ years on at least 20 a day ... was I doing ??
So I stopped as soon as my e-cig arrived.
Started on e-Go clearomizers for 3 months, got bored of charging battery all the time. Went to Spinner V2 with Kanger Mini Protank and Aero Tank V2. wanted more flavour, longer battery life and more control of my units so I bought a eLeaf 20w and a Nautilus Mini, loved it and still do, great flavour and more clouds than I was expecting but BVC coils last no more than a week.
Now taken the next step and bought an iStick 50w with a Vertex V2 clone by Ivogo and a Venturi also by Ivogo. Just ordered a Marquis Tobeco Clone and a Freakshow Mini.
Gone from 12 to 9 now to 6mg Nic.
