I'm off to a lovely start. the washer isn't draining properly, so only goes into the spin cycle after 'resting' several hours. The water drains fine into the house plumbing (i augered it yesterday) or into a bucket, so the problem is with the washer. Water comes out for a couple of seconds, then slows to a dribble. And to add appliance insult to injury, my dishwasher decided that rather than filling to run a load of dishes, it would prefer to dump the water directly on my floor. 
i think there's a problem with the connection between the house water and washer inlet. Is that plumber or dishwasher repair guy problem?

I think I'd go with an appliance repair guy so he could look at both. The washer might be just a valve not opening. We replaced the one on a set we had a couple times. Does any water make it into the dishwasher?
i had a repair guy look at the washer a couple of weeks ago, but since it was dry he couldn't replicate the problem. I plan to cal first thing tomorrow and get him back (still covered under the cost of the first service call)

CES, we are looking at a dishwasher for our rent house. It still works but its getting old and thought we would preemptively replace it.
Lowes has a 10% off appliances and we also received a 10% Lowes discount for moving, they get you with installation as its $165 and the washer only $350. If I had Hittmans skills would replace it myself.

If i had Hitt's skills then i'd pull out the current dishwasher and check the connection. Actually i can probably pull it out...it's repairing it and putting it back that might be the problem

... two rubber hoses under the dishwasher have big-a.s.s. holes chewed into them 
on the bright side i should be able to take the hoses off and take them to home depot for replacement

CES, that you should be able to do as even I hooked up our washer here and even leveled it. buy the braided stainless steel hoses if your poochies are chewing them.
it wasn't the beasties...they couldn't reach there. It was other, smaller unauthorized critters. I will ask about the braided stainless hoses.
I'm waiting for the clothes washer to finish, or stop. it made it though a small load with no problem, so I'm pushing my luck and washing several of teh towels that i used to mop the floor last night

Way to go CES. Good job finding the problem. I always go with stainless lines. I put in our current dishwasher. It wasn't hard. I got mine at Best buy and back then they charged $70 for installation. I worked on our last washer and dryer a few times and had to call a repair guy. It was a whirlpool cabrio set that had a class action suit against. It was a real lemon. We paid over 2k for that set and had to replace it after 7 years. We went back with a regular GE set that has an agitator in it. It cleans better than the whirlpool ever did.

i've replaced the two hoses and have the dishwasher running. The inlet hoses are tight. I'm waiting for the rinse cycle to see whether the drain hoses are secure. Fingers crossed. I don't have that much hand strength so it's really difficult to get the hose clamps tight enough.
ETA: it WORKED!!!!

Good work CES. I'm going to try to replace the dishwasher, got the old one out even took off the power cord. Bought a cheap stainless dishwasher at Lowes.
Good job CES! PT, make sure to take the fitting off the old one that you need to hook up the water. I had mine delivered and they took the old one. I got home to install it and had to go to the hardware store to buy a fitting.
Yep, kept that. Had to buy a water hook-up kit and keep the old powercord. it was free delivery and haul away the old one so thought I would give it a shot.
Total after all discounts was $360 delivered, oh and its coming tomorrow.

My mom got a new one a couple of months ago and paid teh installation fee, but she needed a different type of water connector. The installer wouldn't do it, so she had to hire a plumber and then have the installer come back.
