Hey that's really awesome that you have found something that helps your chronic pain. I too have several chronic pain issues. Maybe without knowing it I am medicating myself with nic. ??? This is really interesting to me. I vape 36mg like there's no tomorrow. I know for sure it helps me concentrate on things gooder too. I'm that guy with adult A.D.D and stuff. so in my case nicotine is a God send.

from what I've experienced with it, I bet you are self medicating :) .. I got another friend of mine with Fibro to try it and she felt results within her first ten minutes vaping and is now doing it herself to medicate and has noted some pretty dramatic results, it even helps a bit with fibro fog :) .. it's that endorphin release :)

My mom has pretty severe Fibro. I wish there was a way to help her like how your friend found relief. My mom would never try it though and I can't blame her for that. I know that endorphins have always been great for me guess I never thought that nicotine was linked to endorphins being released into my system but now that I think about it it makes perfect sense.

Welcome and thank you for sharing your great experience with the "evil" nicotine:) Nicotine just like its second sometimes vilified cousin Caffeine has a lot of benefits. Its good for pain, migraines, nose bleeds and general malaise and fatigue. Its also good for some bi-polars, schizophrenia and other psychological problems. Its as bad as many other natural stimulants if over used or abused. Its a natural chemical and less harmful than all those energy drinks and other suppliments that all those "healthy" anti-smoking fanatics down like water.

Welcome again and here is to less pain which is always a good thing to those that suffer from joint pain.

they suggested I start at 6, go to 12, 18 then 24 and to stop upping it if I noticed effects.. for me it kicked in at 18. I can't do patch's do to Sjogrens Syndrome and they were nervous my kids would get into gum.. this I can keep on a landyard around my neck (which I don't have yet and have settled into tucking it neatly into my bra LOL) and keep it away from kids , yet handy constantly. As a aside they noted that they are NOT worried about the vapor itself negatively effecting my kids and pointed to several studies done locally here on vapor that show it has really good success with fibromyalgia patients which is what initially triggered them to suggest it for me.

So happy for you that it's working well. And how great that you have such supportive doctors. Your future looks bright.:)

PS if that is you in your avatar - you have beautiful hair!

After reading all your posts here, I find that I too am self-medicating. Although my doctors don't approve. They want me to quit vaping as well. HA! Fat chance. I have RA, diabetes, and something that no one can agree on, although they are leaning towards MS, or something closely akin to it. I already keep sugar and wheat out of my diet because of the diabetes, if I had to quit vaping... well, let's just say it wouldn't be pretty. Lol. Thank you so much for sharing your story. Now if I can just convert my hubby over to vaping all the time...:D

Many papers in the literature indicate that nicotine has analgesic and possibly anti-inflammatory effects, so this report is not at all surprising. Most of the data was obtained with animal models, but there are also several clinical studies showing the effect in humans.

Just a few recent examples:

A recently published systematic review evaluating the results of 9 clinical studies shows significant reduction of post-operative pain upon nicotine administration: Nicotine for Postoperative Analgesia: A Systema... [Anesth Analg. 2013] - PubMed - NCBI

The effect of nicotine on inflammatory pain was nicely demonstrated in a rat model: Functional role of alpha7 nicotinic recept... [Biochem Pharmacol. 2013] - PubMed - NCBI

Interestingy, it has been reported that administration of nicotine to humans led to pain reduction, while smoking led to an increase in pain severity: Effects of nicotine on spinal cord injury pain vary a... [J Pain. 2012] - PubMed - NCBI

Based on these results there is an ongoing debate about the development of nicotine receptor agonsists as novel analgesics. So far this has been hampered by the side effects of the drugs currently available: Neuronal nicotinic receptors as analgesic ... [Biochem Pharmacol. 2013] - PubMed - NCBI

Recently however my team of doctors suggested I try vaping to see if the nicotine intake would help with pain my joints especially in my hands and wrists as I'm already maxed out on several pain killers and they hoped the natural route would do some good... here I am roughly two months later and it IS helping big time with my pain...
!!! I need to know more about this. I know folks with Lupus & JRA.

I too suffer from some ailments and was told to get off cigs cuz' it was making them worse so I was surprised to see a positive use of nicotine. Yes I know cigarettes contained 3,999 other chemicals that probably did the damage or caused the problems. But I'm still glad to see something positive come out of nicotine use other than satisfying cravings, which I have :) Happy Vaping!
