Well, with much anticipation and high expectations, I ordered 2 joy 510 kits. One for me and one for hubby. We both really want to quit smoking. I smoke a little over 1 pack per day and he's at exactly 1 pack per day. Both long time smokers, over 25 years now.

I smoke very strong menthol cigarettes called Seneca's and he's merit ultra lights. The Seneca cigs are natural cigs made in canada with the strongest menthol that I've ever tasted. Way stronger then newport, kool......etc.

So before the kits arrived I watched just about every video on youtube available and spent days reading through these threads so I knew what to do with it. I've read so many posts about how great it is, and how so many people were able to never smoke a regular cigarette again after getting their kit, and they even liked the ecigs better, so I was REALLY EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!

I got the ecopure liquid in Gold flavor and also Menthol flavor with the medium nicotine strength. Put it all together and tried it. Well..........not so great. I get alot of vapor, but I can taste the nicotine, it tickles my throat and is a bit irritating and the menthol is so weak I can barely taste it. It's like smoking an ultra light regular cigarette, but not quite as good as a regular cigarette.

So, I'm a little disappointed right now, still smoking regulars and also smoking the ecigs, but so far it's not cutting it for me or hubby as a complete replacement for regular cigs.

Could it be the liquid that I bought? I need that really powerful minty hit that I get from my regular cigs without that nasty nicotine tingle that I"m getting from the ecigs. I tried direct dripping, and no difference in taste there.

I read through the eliquid recipies to try and get inspiration hoping that maybe its just the liquid that I dislike.......but I dont know exactly how to mix my own.

So far my experience wasn't bad, but wasn't all that great either. Any suggestions? What am I missing here? Am I the only one?

Your mom said not to say...
Hate to say it but it sounds to me like your expectations were too high. These cannot duplicate to the letter the experience of smoking a tobacco cigarette. It can come close but it won't be identical. The nicotine taste can't be completely masked either with flavors, perhaps that's what the FDA was thinking as well, like you that the "flavors" would not make it taste like a cigarette. I don't know since I can't say what you're thinking, but just keep it in mind that you will get the nicotine taste no matter what and I can't speak for others but I feel it helps with the throat hit in my mind, having that taste there.

As for making the menthol stronger you can get some menthol crystals and try adding one at a time. They are really strong though and usually people add ONE crystal to a batch so use with care. You can make your own juice even starting out new it's not hard. Grab a E-Juice Calculator from eJuice Recipe Calculator then get yourself some unflavored PG/VG with nicotine, some PG/VG plain, some flavors, and a dash of alcohol. Piece of cake and you can really make some menthol strong enough to use as embalming fluid if you so choose.

Just keep the effort up and hopefully it will start to taste a lot better. One thing to keep in mind is those 510's are notorious for awful taste at the start but it sounds like you were aware of this and took measures to avoid it. It may just be a matter of rededicating yourselves to quitting and starting with a fresh start. I also have a 510 and a m401 style Dragon and to me and lots of others the 401 style gives much better, smoother taste thats not as harsh as the 510, you might want to try one of those out as well. I hate to tell you to spend more on a E-Cig though if you don't feel that you will like it. The taste is better but you will still get the cigarette taste. Hope this helps.

Not sure my comments will be too helpful, but here goes anyway. I've tried several menthol liquids (because I also smoke menthol cigs), and I just can't compare them...the difference is like trying to compare apples to oranges. In fact, I don't like the menthol liquids much at all (though, recently, when I had a cold, they were the only ones I could taste). Of the menthol liquids I've tried, I liked NHaler's menthale the best...but everyone's tastes are so different. You might want to order some samples of different liquids from various suppliers.

Regarding the taste of nicotine...I haven't experienced that all and I use mostly 24mg (but that's in RY4). Someone will come along who will have an answer for this.

Also, I think most people at first experiencing a bit of throat discomfort when switching...it generally goes away.

Best wishes on your journey...it definitely is a learning experience! I haven't given up real cigs yet, but my consumption is WAY down so I'm satisfied.

E-cigs are not a 'magic bullet' to smoking cessation. You may be able to use it as part of a personal harm reduction strategy to wean you off analogs as many of us have done. You must set your mind on quitting for this non-tobacco device to be of any use.

I do not taste nicotine. Your description of the vapor hitting your throat is quite normal for new vapers. You are inhaling a new type of concoction that feels different than tobacco smoke. Drink plenty of liquids to keep your mouth and throat from getting too dry.

I used to smoke menthol and searched for a good liquid to provide that taste. It does not exist. As Snarkyone pointed out, menthol crystals are very powerful and can be used for more menthol flavor to any liquid you may have. I found that the crystal (or menthol liquid) in a large amount taste more medicinal and less satisfying.

While I was able to leave analogs behind over seven months ago, it took me a few months to narrow down to the device(s) that satisfy me most. I got the most satisfaction from a high-voltage device. It provides excellent vapor and thorat hit. My primary device runs at high-voltage (6 volts) with a penstyle atomizer. For relaxing, I use an e-pipe which produces oodles of vapor. At the computers is my DIY passthrough with a penstyle atomizer running at 5 volts.

You might try "double flavor" menthol from MyFreedomSmokes.com: Welcome to MY FREEDOM SMOKES

Also, 510 attys take a while to break in. You'll probably get better results (more vapor, better flavor) after a couple/few days.

But as others have noted, it won't be exactly the same as smoking a stick of burning leaves. Expectations can be tough to deal with.

I think it's the Ecopure:) I started on ecopure and it gives a lot of vapor but next to no throat hit and very mild/smooth flavor:) If you like strong menthol I would suggest nhaler.com for the menthale, 555 menthol or nuport. :) Also tw has a menthol in their own line (not the decadent vapors) that I had to add pg to because the menthol was so strong!:) It will never be exactly like a cig but I love menthol as well and these are the best I've found:D Good luck:D

It may take a few days for you to really start to enjoy vaping.

My first puff on my 510 was not pleasant at all, and it wasn't due to any primer in the atty. It was the juice. It was nowhere near what I was used to with smoking cigs, and was kinda harsh on my throat.

Everyone that I have let try my 510, even now that I am using a mild juice, usually cough and say how strong it is. I have to chuckle, because I vape 9mg. It's just different than what they are used to, and it takes a little bit for your throat and lungs to adjust. Juice that I thought was kinda nasty tasting when I started now taste pretty good. Just give it time.

Well, looks like they are temporarily sold out, but Juicy Liquid has premixed menthol drops. Just add one drop per ml to your juice (i.e. if you have a 15ml bottle of juice, add 15 drops and shake). Someone also mentioned menthol crystals, which they sell too, but it is a bit more hassle.

Menthol Drops [Mnth_DR_8mL] - $4.00 : JuicyLiquid.com, DIY E-Liquid and Accessories!

If you want menthol, this will knock your socks off I guarantee! When we first got it my wife added a drop to her cartridge and a week and several top-offs later, you can still taste the menthol. This stuff is STRONG.
