So I have been analog free for 23 days now. Everyday I enjoy the e-cig more and more. I am curious as to how many of you now feel that this is more of a hobby than a stop smoking device ? My initial plan was to slowly ween myself off of this and stop smoking which is why I think I took to it so easily. Now though I am having so much fun trying new things that I don't really see myself stopping this any time soon. So I suppose my question to the long time users is does the novelty wear off and you try to stop this as well or do you still continue to enjoy it just as much ?

After three weeks, for me, I figured out how to do it all in little time and not much mess. In the beginning it will be a hobby/hassle to some. My three weeks though, is probably the same as a few months for some vapers. Just because I am all over these forums day in and day out. I mean geesh I haven't been vaping a month and I have moved up the ranks here quick! As for vaping, I will continue to vape til they pry it from my cold dead hands.

I'm only into it a few weeks now but I've already set up my system to keep everything organized and quick and easy. While I do find it kind of fun it's definitely not a hobby for me. I just want the thing to work and be ready when I want it. I'm really not into the whole mod thing and getting ten different models. Who knows though that may change. Now on the other hand trying to make sure it remains legal for me and everyone else has definitely become a hobby and then some!

I guess in the beginning it was like a hobby, but I see that changing a bit (for me any way). I've settled in to a routine that's working for me and I find I'm not jumping to try a lot of new flavors every week like I used to. It's kind of becoming second nature and I'm actually enjoying it more.

Yeah, I'd like to get to where you are, the idea for me was to save $$ on the high cost of analogs and get a nic fix without the bad effects of smoking. Well, really happy to have found a way to eliminate the smoke and the health benefits are a real plus.
Until today, I was afraid to add up what I've spent in 3 mths of vaping but I was surprised.
I've spent about $400 so far, mostly on juice and extra atty's,batts.
Now considering I was buying butts online at about maybe $240 or so a month ( if I had to buy them local, that amt would be double here in MA)
I guess I have saved $$ after all. So hey, this hobby isn't as bad as I thought :D

Well said pmd. Here's a point to ponder:

If I had a choice between paying what I estimated at in excess of $210.00 per month to smoke analogs and continue to poison myself and shorten my life or pay that same $210.00 per month to enjoy the flavor and satisfaction of vaping without poisoning myself and reap the benefits of better health, etc., I would definately choose the later.

That being said, I'm figuring I'm using perhaps 1.5 to 2 ml of e-juice per day which at $0.60 per ml is less than $1.00 per day. Much cheaper than the $7.00 per day I was spending for analogs.

That makes me a happy vaper...

I think vapers fall into several camps, I personally started vaping in order to replace some of the cigarettes I smoked, not to give it up entirely. But three weeks after starting I did give up, although it certainly wasnt planned.

I enjoyed the vaping experience so much, that for me it has become a hobby.

That hobby leads me to collect PV's, not all mind you, just those that have particular appeal. It also leads me to find perfection in the juices I vape.

I enjoy mixing me own juices these days, and experimenting with flavours.

All of the above suggests its a hobby, and because I feel in control of that hobby, I know that cigarettes no longer control me. For example I decided to have a cigarette in order to see if it would rekindle the craving, it didnt. In fact I couldnt believe how quick a cigarette is gone.. You light it, inhale, fail to get the throat hit that my PV gives me, and its gone...

So, my hobby has had the side effect of halting a 43 years addiction..

After 7 months the new has definitely wore off. At first I was like all of you finding this fun and amusing buying so much I am almost broke. After 7 1/2 months I have spent around $6000 but it was fun. I loved to buy all the different kinds of ecig and all different liquids. I have enough to last a lifetime.

But now is more of a have to situation. Its rather annoying at times. It was so much easier to smoke analog.

But because of the health benefits I will continue to vape and because I have so much invested.

I kinda agree, M. Going into month 7, I had the odd feeling the other day that I was going to give up vaping- not that I don't currently enjoy it, not that I'm going back to analogs- just that odd looming sense that it'll happen. Kinda like getting pregnant. Of course, I am a guy 8-o but I think I know what I mean .

That thought kinda makes me happy. I never started ecigs as a 'transitional' device, but they're taking me in that direction, enjoyably.

After about a month in, it is starting to transition from the new hobby to just a healthier alternative to analogs.

Like a number of others, I did not tell myself that I would not smoke, I was investigating whether I could replace some of my analogs with vaping.

My first purchase was a crappy County Fair device which lasted 2 weeks but instead of smoking 1.5-2 packs a day, I went through 1 pack in the weeks the device worked. I researched, bought a 510 a few weeks later and have not had an analog since.

I have a 901 Protege now as well and figure I have spent more than $400 on equipment and supplies. I won't reach break-even for a short while yet, but since I was spending about $300 per month on cigs, it won't be long.

No desire for a real smoke, better breathing, better taste, much better smell in my clothing, hair, house, and car-I may quit this too in time, but this is working very well for me.

Eight months in. I bought my first before I flew out to see my daughter because she and her hubby hate the smell. I used it for about a week before I left. While out shopping one day, both of my batteries gave out and I lit up an analog: Hated the taste.
I never thought of it as a hobby, nor will it be one. I was a bit crazy at first because of the threat of the FDA banning them. Frantically, I stocked up.
DH did try the PV a few times because it was a new thing, but, because it seemed to not like him, he doesn’t anymore. He had problems every time he used it. The dislike also could be because he doesn’t have much patience and to keep using the PV, patience is required.
Not a big thing in his life because he isn’t a smoker. DH did take up smoking in Vietnam and pretty much quit a year or so after he was back. Since then, when he got a yen, he’d smoke one or more. This happen mostly when he went to play pool with a couple of buds. He stopped doing that a few years ago. After that his average was maybe two a year and even then, he’d take a puff or two and put it out—or I’d finish it. In the last 8 months, since I started vaping, he has had none.

Still, for me, he learned how to mod. I prefer his battery mods and the one’s he made powered by a Wall Wart. AND, bless his heart, he walked me through building a NicoStick.
He has been so supportive of the transition and will bite back when anyone says anything bad about them.
I’m off the nicotine and just want to enjoy vaping so my goal is just to have enough of everything to see me through for years and years.
If I ever find the perfect filler method for the cart, I’ll be in seventh heaven and would have no more need to try or buy any new hardware until I go through my stash of attys. Hopefully by then there will have been improvements and the PVs are better than ever.
I have no plans on quitting but I have noticed I don’t go into a frantic attack when my PV’s battery dies on me. I now I have more in my car or at home and it’s no problem waiting until I get to either place.
If I’m driven by anything, it’s raising public awareness of how much safer vaping is compared to smoking.

2 months it's still a hobby for me because I am a computer/gadget geek and mod everything I can get my hands on. I was working on some mods, but now that I have my Chuck and it works exactly like I want and is durable enough to stand up to my abuse, I doubt I'll do much more aside from buying the basic supplies to keep going.

Like so many others, I had no intention of quitting smoking, which I've loved for 40+ years. But somebody let me sample their e-cig on Halloween, I did my research (found ECF), ordered my starter kit (V4L) and that was it. Haven't had an analog since (I've still got four cartons in the cupboard.)

I doubt this will become a hobby with me, like watch collecting. I'm thoroughly pleased with what I have -- quality, prices, service.

As a former heavy smoker (2 packs 100mm full flavor / day, sometimes more), I'm astounded at the cost savings for the SAME satisfaction!

I figured it out, so far, based on my vaping habits, because EVERYBODY asks about cost.

I'm spending in ONE YEAR of vaping what I used to spend in ONE MONTH of smoking.
