So apparently in the UK Christmas is already here... it seems.

I always told myself it was Christmas when I saw the coca cola advert on TV, however I saw this a couple of days ago and its on just after the middle of November!

Is this a normal showing for the advert to come on TV? Or is it just because I'm getting older (28 next) that I'm so not ready for Christmas like I normally am....

Not just with TV adverts but places starting to put their decorations up too! :glare:

It's good to see that our neighbors "across the pond" finally got the memo! Here in the states, Christmas has been coming before Halloween for years. I was a store Halloween week and overheard the store manager telling her employees that they had to be at work at 4am the day after Halloween because they had to have all of the Halloween stuff out and the entire store stocked for Christmas by the time they opened. Christmas is just way too commercialized these days!

That's terrible! But yeah it is getting earlier and too commercialized! So much so that people will never know the true meaning! It just seems to be about presents and getting drunk! (Which isn't a bad thing) but I reckon in 10 years time it won't actually have any meaning what so ever, I can understand the beginning of December to start showing things on TV and decorating places, but it's getting earlier! Stupid! It's the same with everything though, supermarkets are the worst, one event is over and they have stuff in for the next (easter eggs for example) it's getting earlier and earlier.

Thanksgiving, here in The States, is a great holiday in November that isn't overly commercialized. So of course, all the commercial stuff skips it. Yep...Holiday season starts in November :/ (Unless you see ads for "Christmas in July" sales...)

Marketing.

It wouldn't surprise me! It will be an all year event sooner or later! They will just spoil the whole meaning! The excitement and the build up! Like me now, I'm not ready for it and in a way has spoilt it for me this year! Maybe it's just my age!

There you go again about "the age thing". It was cute when you said 28 was getting older in your first post above. Now.....it is starting to be in the same league as "Christmas in July". Just say'n. ;) Little hint from us old farts....

Oh, and as an addendum, they now call this time of year "Black November" in modified reference to "Black Friday"... the day after Thanksgiving, traditionally the biggest single shopping day of the year since many have it as a vacation day. "Black" refers to "in the black" as compared to "in the red"...i.e. positive territory in a balance sheet for retailers. They start to break even and make money on average around that date.

I don't like calling it "Black November". It just usurps the whole month.
