I some how doubt they'd go this far since passengers can still carry lighters and analogs.
Ah, see, I thought lighters WERE banned.
I was sitting here thinking, wait, I KNOW I've had to give up my lighter before.

Turns out lighters were banned, but then they lifted the ban...
TSA: New Policies for Lighters, Electronics, and Breast Milk

Before lifting the ban, over 11.5M lighters were confiscated in 2006 alone.

I don't get it. When I was a smoker-smoker, I used to fly, and never had a problem getting the last hits before entering the airport, and then just waiting until I got to my destination to fire up another one. I never had the urge to sneak one or to go outside at a stopover. I imagine that a lot of other people didn't have this problem either (on long international flights I can totally understand getting some nicorette gum or commit for the flight. 12-20 hours on a plane would suck). So, what's the big deal with "needing" to vape on a plane?

I'm not trying to knock anyone, just curious.

It's not that people need to vape on a plane. It's that the Obama administration is trying to redefine "smoking" to include e-cigarettes and allows fines of up to $3,200 to be assessed against users, including those who may not be aware that the definition had been changed.

Airliners are free to ban e-cigs, and vapers should respect that. The federal government, however, must pass a new law if it wishes to criminalize vaping.

And you will also have some people like the vapor above in the thread, who wrote : "Self impose you own ban if you want to. I'll carry mine anywhere I damn well please unless it's against the law. "

If it isn't illegal, he's going to vape away and tell anyone who doesn't like it to screw off. He isn't going to stealth, and he doesn't care if that increases the likelihood of it being made illegal.

That's me you're quoting. I was responding to pyro13g saying that they shouldn't be allowed on airplanes. Would I use it on the flight? Probably not, but I want to have it with me, not checked in my luggage. If I'm allowed to carry cigarettes and lighters on, why not my PV? You don't know me. I wouldn't just vape away unless it is stealth. You seem to know a lot about me and you don't even know me! The only one I'm going to tell to screw off is YOU.

You are obviously not aware of the Patriot Act and its extremely broad criminal charge for disobeying a flight attendant.

There was a story earlier this year about a man in Utah getting arrested because, after he refused to stop using his e-cig, he threw peanuts at the flight attendant. He was not charged with "smoking" on an airplane. He was charged under the Patriot Act as described above.

Who are you referring to?

The person I quoted and anyone else who thinks that people will blatantly use e-cigarettes in disregard for the rules of individual airliners, and then refuse to stop when told not to and exit the airplane without being taken in for a word with the authorities.

Regulations.gov

Everybody please submit a comment by November 14th! This is a $2,300 fine for vaping for crying out loud.

I've already submitted my comment at regulations.gov. If you'll go back and read all the posts, you'll see that Baldr is the one that posted that crap, not me. That was not a quote from me. I was talking about bring a PV aboard, NOT vaping whenever I wanted to. He was trying to attribute something to me that I did not say. Read the entire thread.

I just flew on a Southwest flight two weeks ago and sat in the first row with another woman who was vaping away and blowing it toward the flight attendants (it's hard to be stealthy about anything in the first row!). My seat neighbor was trying to convince me to vape with her, but my equipment was in my carry-on stowed in the overhead bin. At the end of our flight, the attendants politely told her that vaping is not allowed on SW flights. The SW employees were not at all aggressive or nasty about it, and my vaper neighbor took the news politely as well. The attendants could have asked her to stop during the flight, so I think they were very lenient.

So, we will probably not be allowed to vape on flights but our batteries can only be stowed in the cabin - something about checked baggage not being pressurized enough for the lithium ion batts?

Do I want to vape openly in the airpot and on the plane? Heck, yeah! Will I behave myself and refrain from vaping in those areas? Begrudgingly, yes.
