Maybe I'm getting a lot older and didn't even notice. I have had a few younger (18-21) people come up to me and ask me if I was smoking a hookah. If I am correct, I'm fairly certain I am, a hookah is used for tobacco and has hoses coming out of it with a vase like central chamber. Are e-cigarettes, now known as hookahs? Did I miss that bus?

The operation of an ecig is almost identical functionally to a hookah. Hookahs vaporize a flavored juice that tobacco substrate is soaked in. I don't know why they asked you that though.

No, it doesn't burn (the tobacco) if you do it right.

There are, they have yet to really work all that well though. Ecig marketing has touched on the hookah link since the early days but now there is concerted effort to cross over the two markets with specialty designed vapes that simulate the hookah itself.

But the bottom line is, vaping is closer to hookah smoking than any other type of tobacco use.

I've only tried it once, when my college age children "treated" me to a hookah bar for Father's Day. I enjoyed it. It reminded me more of vaping than smoking.

Hookah is more like a tobacco jelly but yeah it is tobacco based. With that you probably do get some of the bad stuff from smoking but certainly not all, since it is not actually being burned.

Yes, but what causes tar-and-chemical containing smoke to form is burning tobacco substrate, in a properly operated hookah that does not happen. It's sort of like WTA vaping.

Also don't forget, nicotine in ejuice is from tobacco as well.

True, but all the other chemicals found naturally in tobacco are removed in standard (non-WTA) nic juice. This is not true for Hookah.

That is true, however most of them do not find their way into hookah smokestream. The point is to break the automatic assumptions.

I get asked EVERY SINGLE TIME I'm out with my Zmax or mech, "Where'd you get a portable Hookah?"
When I'm using my eGo, no one looks twice and automatically assumes smoking a cigarette.

I don't understand why some feel the need to "defend" hookah.

I have seen inaccurate information from both sides of the typical disagreement on this subject. First thing is hookah and shisha are different. How hookahs work varies. Even the indirect burning method described by the forums biggest hookah defender is still burning. Instead of getting 4000+ chemicals you would get from smoking a cigarette, that method gives you probably a few hundred to more than a thousand but I haven't seen an analysis.

Bottom line, what most of us are trying to get (or lose depending on perspective) from e-cigs will not be accomplished with a hookah and what we do is VERY different.

Just do a search on Amazon for Hookah pens.

They are marketing them with crayola colors to the younger crowd, and Youtube has a few videos of this "fashionable" "cool" thing to use/do.

Hookah's are not e-cigarettes. e-cigarettes are not hookah's. ECF is about e-cigarettes, not hookah's. Closing.
