Horizontal vs. Vertical Coil/Filler in Cartos?

I've been happily vaping on 510 cartos since May. I was getting ready to buy some new (soft-tipped) ones when I saw that they have "horizontal filler." I've almost worn out the search button on ECF and am completely stymied beyond having figured out that it refers to the position of the coil.

So... what does this mean and does it make any difference? If knowing which companies make which version is pertinent, I'd love to know that as well.
