Horrible burnt taste

Hi all,

I bought a CE5 starter kit from eXhale (eXhale CE5 Starter Kit) a couple of weeks ago. Kit comes with 2 set (2 transparent "tanks" and 2 batteries). All was swell for the first week then one of the "tanks" was starting to become harder to use (harder to produce vapor). I read around and decided I should try to dry burn clean it. Result: I fried the wick. No big deal, I had 5 spares so changed the wick. My problem is that the juice still has a very metallic taste which it diddn't have before. I tried several things to no avail since then:
- tried 2 new wicks
- "deconstructed" it and soak it in rum, cleaned it, rebuilt it
- try to cut a bit of the clear rubber cap and spread a bit the "gap" in which the wick goes (the "passage" from the "tank" to the coil) to allow a better flow of the juice as the new ones looked tighter than the one the units came with

Since today, the second one (which still has the original wick) starts to behave the same but seeing how I couldn't sort the first one out, I don't dare doing anything.

I'm getting worried how I can sort that out (I'm sure it can, the damn thing was working fine). I discovered vaping and e-cigs absolutely randomly very recently, decided to try that just for the kicks and really loved it (much more than the cigs I used to smoke (a lot!)) but this is now seriously putting me off. Any help is more than welcome :)

PS: Pardon my bad english, it's not my mother tongue.

Thank you.

With the ce-type hardware, you have to tip if once in awhile to make sure the ejuice gets to the heating coil. 1.6ohm is pretty low for them and that could be the problem with the burnt flavor you're getting. If they carry a higher ohm, about 2ohm or higher, you might give them a try. I know that 2ohm doesn't sound like much of a difference but it is when it comes to vaping.

Thank you for your reply. I always vape with the device upside down (or is it downside up?) to get the wicks permanently soaked (not ideal actually, if you know a device that doesn’t require that…).

Regarding the ohms, I’m at a loss and admit I don’t have much clue what this is about. Do you mean the battery? The replacement wicks? I have ordered the replacement proposed for this unit on the same website, do you think they are not appropriate? If so I can probably find them on a different website although I’m not sure what I’m looking for.

Have you tried cartomizers? As long as you keep them topped off wet, you don't have a wicking problem. If you like them or you find something that works more consistently than clearomizers, you can take your time testing other kinds of delivery systems.

I tried the Vision Stone, numerous clearomizers, and even the vivi nova and they all have given me that dreaded dry hit. I've since learned how to recoil the vivi nova with 100% cotton yarn and haven't had a dry hit since. I also have a couple Kanger T2's that work pretty consistently. However, my reliable go to vape gear is a provari and a lambo with carto tanks.

Good luck, and vape on!

New coils have a breakin period too. They will taste a little off at first and usually breakin after a few vape sessions. CE5's are a little hit and miss too though. If you like the ease of the tank system you can try the mini vivnovas at gotvapes(or other retailers) or do like another suggested and give cartomizers a try.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'll try to be more patient with the new wicks to see if the taste goes away after a couple of days. Still so much to learn but I'm loving (almost) every bit of vaping... and that's from a heavy smoker who had no intention to stop at all (willpower is a complete zero in my case, I guess I'm lucky to prefer the taste of my juice to the taste of a ... :)). I'll keep you posted.

The ohms is what heat the coil provides....I'm trying to determine a better way of putting it but that's the easiest as I can come up with. Rule of thumb is...the lower the number in ohms, the hotter it burns. Sometimes, the hotter it burns, isn't a good thing.

2.0 ohms makes burnt metallic and sore throat. 1.5 is worse. I now own 100 2.0ohm attys I can't use. I started getting complaints immediately from my buddy's I sell to. All got 2.0 ohm clearomizers and replacement attys.
Trick is with those to only push that button very briefly like one second or less.
But everybody hated them and sent them back.
2.4 ohm totally different story. Love the taste- flavor- throat hit...
Big difference.
Anyone need 100 2.0 ohm attys? For the CE5 rebuild able clearomizer

I have found that the kanger coils that are 1.8 ohm are more susceptible to the burnt taste but if you switch to a higher ohmage say 2.2 the problem seems to go away. Also, the metallic taste can come from the lubes they use to machine the actual coils (there is no real cleanning process). And I also find that rinsing with anything other than hot water seems to harm te coils, even everclear seems to shorten their lifespan. I hope this has been helpful. And good vapin
