how many wraps and what is the diameter of the coil

if you make the diameter too big, the wick can work fine at first, then after a while the cotton can sink down like a wet cloth leaving the top of the coil unwicked, and the top ends up getting too hot.

I use 30g kanthal, and with all the drill bits i had on hand, I couldn't make a build that was >2 ohms and also exceed 6 wraps (I figured, hey, surface area is important). I wanted to shoot for ~10 wraps, and the mini screwdriver that came with my rda happened to work out for me. I don't know the exact diameter, but I just went to a site and plugged in some numbers and I'm guessing about 1.4-1.6 mm diameter of the screwdriver based on calculated values from the website.

I don't have any knowledge of that particular model; all of mine are "kayfun lite (shorter) plus (airflow control)". At one point I grabbed a "kayfun lite" (no plus) and it had about ZERO airflow, always with the burnt hits; I finally retired it to the JUNK drawer.

If you got the kayfun lite plus, I'd recommend the tobeco clone over the ehpro clone; with the tobeco, you can adjust the screw in the 510 connector to make it stick out further if you need to; if you mess with that screw in the ehpro (or the authentics!), it loosens the coil-mounting base, which plays hell with the resistance. The ones at sweet-vapes are ehpro; I got mine because they have the gold finish, and it was the same price as the stainless; the black is a couple bucks more.

What I understand from this post is that buying advanced vaping products is as confusing as I have been feeling:unsure:, and a few dollars of savings isn't worth me risking getting a bad product. If my new RDA doesn't solve my problems, I'm going to take your advice and go for your suggested tank. You've been amazingly patient and helpful thus far, so I trust your opinion.

EDIT: now that I think about it, my magma clone is made by EHPRO, and I'm obviously not very happy with it. I don't want to talk bad about the supplier (they're very popular), but let's just say I ordered half a dozen things from them, including juice and hardware, and the only thing that hasn't disappointed me is the kanthal I got.

I've done that when I first started rebuilding. Harsh vapor that makes you cough, followed by a headache. I like a 1/8" coil in my Lemos, so I have to pack the cotton in a lot tighter than I would a 3/32" in my Orchids.

Where did you buy your wire? I once bought (or though so) kanthal a1 from a local vendor, and I later found out it was nichrome. If that's the case (check ohm consistency with ur builds using some calculator) some kind of allergy to nickel could be the culprit of your headaches. Worth a cross-check. Also be careful if you wrap using coated drill bits or gigs (usually black colour) as they can leave crap chemicals on your coil.

Ah... I got the tobeco clone of the magma, based entirely on my satisfaction with my tobeco KFL+'s. There's nothing at all *wrong* with my ehpro KFL+, but... it's more of a 1:1 clone of the authentic KFL+, right down to the 510 screw that can't be loosened without creating havoc (they even have the svoemesto logo, which to me seems to make their KFL+ more of a forgery than a clone). The tobeco KFL+ has the 510 screw that *can* be loosened without disturbing the mounting block, and they don't have a single logo on the tank either -- so it's not 1:1, since that screw *can* be loosened, but I'd call it a clone rather than a forgery because they don't put the logo of some company that they're not on their products.

But now I have to wonder if *I* have a clone, because patient and helpful doesn't sound like me AT ALL. :D

I didn't order directly from their site, but it's labeled as A1 kanthal from vapowire. The screwdriver I use doesn't appear to be coated in anything. I wish it were so simple! I do notice that the kanthal changes color a little bit when I first use it, but I rinse it in cold water before i wick it to rinse off any potential debris/chemicals.
