My Hotcig DNA200 arrived today. Escribe immediately updated firmware. device monitor shows
cell1 2.03v
cell2 0.96v
cell3 2.06
After a few min on recovery charge cell2 is going down. Is that suppose to happen?

If the volts are dropping while it's on recovery charge then no. Keep an eye on it and if the volts on cell 2 don't catch up with the rest in a few minutes stop using the lipo.

I put it on the supplied balance charger for a few hours and now all cells are the same. BTW, I also broke the battery housing around the balance charging connector when I was taking it off the charger. Looks like I'll only be doing usb charging from now on.

It vapes like a steam train with the TFV4 dual titanium. Can't even imagine what the x6 coil would be...

Hotcig responded to my mail. (tina@hotcig.net)

Apparently the price for an extra battery is 45usd and the shipping price with ems is 36usd.

Compined with the paypal fees they ask me to pay them 130usd for 2 batteries.

That's more expensive than buying a second mod and have 2 DNA200 devices.

Someone said before for 25$ a battery.
That's not the case at least for me...

Lol if they don't turn up cheaper then that I won't be buying a hotcig stupid that two battery's cost so much although I know some will find it reasonable.
Paricularly since thee batteries come unbalanced and maybe unusable. Got mine on the charger now.

They have been saying a few weeks ago it was $25/battery but shipping DHL was $35. Looks like they are playing games.

There should be a whole lot of folks that should be receiving new batteries free of charge with expedited shipping if Hotcig was any kind of stand up company. In the end it would work out to be in their favor PR + CS wise.
And another thing, it should have came with that 2nd battery included, folks would have jumped on it.

I received mine from Gearbest today. Like just about everyone else, my batteries were grossly under charged. I hooked it up to Escribe and it needed to be updated immediately. After that I checked the batteries voltage in Escribe:
Cell 1. 1.81V
Cell 2. 1.15V
Cell 3. 1.90V
I'm doing a USB recovery charge. It jumped up to over 3.5V per cell quite quickly (I didn't time it, but I'm guessing a minute or 2). Is anyone having any luck getting replacement batteries from either Hotcig or Gearbest. It's ridiculous they were sent out like that. My wood box was also broke on the back hinge (not a big deal).

Cheers,
Steve

It's not necessarily they were sent out like that, the early firmware had bugs and allowed the battery to drain while sleeping. Though it would be nice to see the mod manufacturers doing the updates and configs on these devices I've only heard of one company that actually are taking the time to do that.

Here's a quote from John on the update that supposed to fix those bugs.

There is a new Escribe (V1.0.20) and Firmware (6/30).

Escribe will offer to update the next time you run it.

Once you have the updated and run the new Escribe, there will be a message offering to update the firmware on your DNA 200 the next time you plug it in.

No major features were added in this round. We made small tweaks to the Production Utility to allow it to be used to mass update bare boards, as well as complete devices. Other minor bug and graphical fixes. We added an optional message screen if the user is hitting the max kanthal power.

On the firmware side, we fixed a few bugs that would have made the device consume power while sleeping if the setting file was corrupt, fixed the blinking screen when the balancer is disconnected for Power Supply mode, the device recovers correctly from a balancer disconnection, and stops charging if the balancer is disconnected during operation. We added the option to charge to 4.1 instead of 4.2 volts, which improves the number of charge cycles a battery is good for, at a cost of runtime per charge.

I know about the bug in the old firmware and that they were sent out like that. What I'm concerned about is with the Lipo being run down that low (especially cell 2 being just barely above 1V), that it is compromised. Meaning it possible won't last as long before needing to be replaced, won't hold a full charge (less capacity), etc. If I had an 18650 run down that low, I'd toss it. Are my concerns totally unfounded? I guess I'll see for myself in the coming days.

Cheers,
Steve

Edit. I just checked and the cells balanced out. All are at 3.82V. At least that makes me feel a touch better

Not unfounded at all those are real concerns.

I was only responding to your suggestion that they (The Battery) were shipped to you like that when they probably weren't like that when packaged. Clearly Evolv should have communicated that bug to their distribution channels and it should have been updated and resolved somewhere along the way before reaching the consumer.
It's ridiculous they were sent out like that

I wonder if they have since handled the problem.
I suppose from an optimistic point of view that they hopefully do. Especially since they've apparently updated the aesthetics of the buttons and added more colors that this battery bit would be a thing of the past. I wonder if the apparent break in time or from the pre-order on FT might see this "updated" device?

Well I received mine today from Gearbest (ordered on Sep 30) and it still has the problem. My guess would be, they haven't dealt with it yet. The irritating thing to me is, they have to have known about this problem for awhile now and it should have pulled/recalled by them to rectify it. Instead it seems like they decided to sell them and let us deal with the potential future problems.

The odd thing is, I also have 2 Hcigar VT200's that don't have this problem. I'm left to wonder why? Did they update the firmware? There has to be some reason that the Hotcig is the only one I'm aware of that's coming with severely depleted batteries.

Cheers,
Steve
