How Are You Supposed To Smoke?

So I've been smoking regular cigs for a long time and I went in to a smoke shop to buy an e-cig today, the seller scared me off though when he said you're supposed to take one or two puffs like every five minutes or else it will over heat? How exactly is one supposed to smoke an e-cig? Do you actually feel a rush when you smoke that irregularly? And if so, what would be the most durable brand?

Thanks a lot for any help, everyone - greatly greatly appreciated!:)

Go check out the forums below, there is one about equipment. Or search for 'what should I use', lol. You will get a few hits ;) In the equipment forums you can read about the different PV's you can get. Dang. There are two threads here, they cover so much...let me go try to find them. Personally, we are using 510's and we feel very happy and comfortable with them yet I can say we have not tried any others so that does not make for the best review! I will go find those, they were tantamount in my choices (including mixing our own liquids immediately!). Just read, read and read some more. Best places, best tastes, best prices (do hit the buy/sell forum below, it has been a wonderful thing for us!).

I wouldn't put it in simple terms like that at all. If you take too many drags in rapid succession, then yeah, you'll feel your atomizer get hot and you need to let it sit a minute. But the whole experience is a little different than what your used to with smoking. Once you get used to it, though, it's amazing and you'll no doubt find yourself cutting way back on smoking or even quit all together.

Before you make a purchase, I highly recommend you do a lot of reading on the forums here. Also, watching user videos on youtube is a good way to get a better sense of how e-cigs work and how to use them.

I can chain vape my Janty Stick loaded with 18mg liquid for the duration of a movie and not get any head rush whatsoever.

I realize this will be different for everyone but 18mg's seems to be low compared to what a lot of forum members vape, 36mg's and up.

I've never overheated any of my PV's or even had an atty burn out in the 4 months I've been vaping. The original 2 attys that came with my first 510 kit are still going strong.

Yeah I'm going to just go ahead and keep researching, its' all kind of overwhelming and a bit confusing. I'm looking into buying Blu, just want to be sure I don't screw it up. If I buy a starter kit, do I have to worry about buying replacement batteries, etc or will I be set for a decent time with 1 atomizer and 1 battery.

It really can seem overwhelming at first, I know. The first e-cig I bought (when I knew almost nothing about these things) was an NJOY NPro. Some people like those, but I thought it was lame so it ended up being a total waste of money for me. It wasn't until I found this forum months later and did tons of reading that I got something different that I did like (I use a DSE901, but the JOYE 510 seems to be really popular with people right now).

No matter what e-cig you end up buying, you'll want to make sure you have a couple batteries and a couple atomizers on hand, as well as plenty of pre-filled cartridges or e-liquid (for filling the cartridges yourself). The reason is this technology is still evolving and sometimes a part might die sooner than you expect. Also, they just plain wear out with use. And you really don't want to be stuck wanting to use it and having to wait for an order you placed online to get delivered!

The two sticky threads at the top of the New Member's forum is a great starting point for information. Those cover all the e-cig basics. After that, just browse the forums and ask whatever you want to ask. Everyone here is really helpful.

First thing you want to do is decide what is more important to your needs..

Amount Of vapour
How long a battery lasts
Where will you use your e-cig
Throat hit
Quality of flavour/taste

etc....

There is no one single model that will meet all of your requirements, but some will meet more than others..depending on what those needs are.

The information here can seem overwhelming. I'm only one week into this but already feel more comfortable with it all. I read the info threads and random other threads for a couple of days. I finally decided I just had to take the plunge and pick a model, then take it a step at a time from there.

The Joye 510 seemed a very popular choice, so I went with that. Get a starter kit whatever model you get- that will get you a deal on 2 atomizers, 2 batteries, some pre-filled carts, and an AC charger (more stuff if you opt for a fancier kit). And grab some sample liquids with it at the least. I went through cignot.com, a site that is well thought of here. Good prices and very fast shipping.

I was pretty much a chain smoker (40-50 cigs a day). Or at least a chain burner (you know, you light one up and next thing you know, your cig is one long ash), lol. Vaping is a bit different experience (I do take a lot fewer hits then I did with cigs), but it didn't seem to take that much adjusting to for me. And it's certainly less wasteful! The trick is getting the nicotine level that is right for you (I am using 25-26mg, but could probably go a little higher) and mastering the art of the vape.

I was having some trouble getting good, consistent hits and tried the straw mod today. What a difference! So if you have any trouble, there's no doubt a solution to be found on this board.

Lots of different e-cigs out there . . . and everyone seems to have his/her favorite. ;)

My first suggestion is that you update your profile to include your location. You would be surprised at how often a fellow vaper will live nearby. I have a standing offer to all folks within a comfortable drive of the St. Louis area . . . meet me at my local coffee shop in west county St. Louis, and I'll let you see and try all of my toys. (And I do have quite a few.)

Second, consider starting off with a manual battery (the kind with a button). The learning curve, imo, is much lower since you don't have to focus as much on your drawing/inhaling technique.

Third, just spend some time reading the forum and watching videos. There's a wealth of information out there. :)

And fourth, welcome to the wide, wonderful world of vaping. :)

Maybe for the shoddy brand he was carrying, or he didn't carry any and just bad mouthing in general. I've smoked for nearly 50 yrs and the only limitation on how quickly I can vape is only limited by the liquid wicking into the atomizer. That's easily covered by either dripping a couple of drops into the atomizer every 10 puffs or so, or my more usual having 2 510's going when I'm vaping a little heavy.

Seller is WRONG. I've been able to vape every ecig I've tried without any significant waiting between puffs.

IMHO, most reliable ecigs are the JOYE 510 and the Npro. I'm currently looking for Npro compatible RN4081 parts on the web that are as reliable as Npro, though a whole lot cheaper.

That Npro at the store may seem expensive. However, if you estimate the cost of your juice over the next few months, you will find that the cost of juice will make the cost of the Npro not sound so bad.

For making a choice between the JOYE 51 and the Npro, you may want to check out my experience and observations:
