How do I deal with the Ohms on the Vivi-Novas with the Provari?

I use Vivi Novas on my Provari, just as I did on my C-Twists.
However, the old heads were listed at 2.8 ohms with two-long wicks.
The newer ones are listed as 2.4 ohms but with more-shorter wicks
and a metal "tip" at the top.
The older version seems to take a higher voltage and last longer.
I must be doing something wrong.

What voltage do you set it at with each head? Also, not all heads are created equal. Some could be bad straight out of the packaging.

I actually screw on the new head, pull off the silicon cap on the top so I can see down to the coils and while bone dry new throw a few real quick "conditioning" dry burns on it while puffing on it to cool it down (just glow it red a little bit) this way I know its not popped from the start and I waste my juice (and since dry and no juice it doesn't build up the black burned ick under the wick), but it builds a nice layer of oxidation in preparation for the juice (I don't get that "hot" metal taste on the first few puffs)...then pre-prime with a drop of juice in the center hole on the wick, and a drop on each side outside the head...put back on rubber top, put on tank, fill tank and vape away!

I actually had a head read 4.4Ω before the burn, 2.8Ω after 3x turn red and cool cycles and stayed stable after

Your are not doing anything wrong. What you are experiencing is normal even.

Higher ohms (2.8 ohm) need higher voltage
Lower ohms (2.4 ohm) need less voltage

This is essentially Ohms Law. Ohms is a measurement of the resistance electrons have in moving along a wire coil. If there is less resistance (low ohms), the electrons are more free to move along the wire, heating the coil faster and hotter. If there is more resistance (higher ohms), the electrons are less free to move along the wire with the coil heating slower and less hot at peak voltage.

This is why a LR or low resistance coil will be warmer in vapor. And why a standard or higher resistance coil will produce a cooler vape. Low resistance coils tend to be less durable or as long lasting because they are burning hotter which tends to wear them down.

Unfortunately, I think you are right. I pulled two of of a pack of five that were DOA!

I guess that I am surprised that .4 ohms makes that much of a difference.

OK! I had heard about the "dry burn" thing but wasn't sure what the deal was.
I also tried soaking the heads in alcohol, but after the black gunk builds up it just pointless.

Yeah...I have actually gently tugged the side of the wick...pulling the black gunk out...run hot water over it while I scrape it with my nail and try to get as much of the black stuff off and pull it back thru the other way, sometimes even leave the old black on the side just outside the coil, one side of wick will be longer...so far have had a single head on my vivi nova mini for over a month and still vaping strong! My wicks have come unravelled quite a bit...but still vapes like a freight train!

That's where knowing Ohm's law comes in handy. Voltage x voltage, divided by Resistance = Wattage.

A 2.4 ohm coil at 4.5 volts = 8.43 watts. (4.5 x 4.5 / 2.4)

A 2.8 ohm coil at 4.5 volts = 7.23 watts. (4.5 x 4.5 / 2.8)

So there's a 1.2 watt difference between the two coils. Significant difference in outputs.

It makes an even more significant difference as the resistance gets lower. At 1.0 ohms and 3.7 volts, output is 13.69 watts; at 0.6 ohms and 3.7 volts, output is 22.81 watts.

Exactly. I have a couple EVODs because I thought I'd see what all the fuss was about ... and they pretty much suck lol. I have 12 atties right now and 10 of them are rebuildable silica and 2 are gennies. Pre made wick and coils are garbage. Not trying to sound negative or trash on anyones favouirte cape (vivi/evod/whatever) but once you go rebuildable it's nearly impossible to go back.
