Can they? How? I have several tanks that are all the same and use drop in coils. I use these tanks on various mods, some mods are the same so it eliminate the brand of mod/tank variable.. I have one tank that goes through coils like crazy where as the other tanks don't. After going through many coils I stated wondering if the tank could be bad.

There are a couple of ways I know of.

1. If a tank is painted the paint can and will peel exposing metal which may be poisonous. This also applies to gold electroplating. This is one of the quickest ones and the reason I personally only buy stainless steel tanks.

2. A glass breaks and you can’t get a replacement

3. Rubber gaskets wear out. They often provide a replacement set, but silicone gaskets are silicone gaskets and a replacement can often be found somewhere.

4. The insulator material between the center post and the tank base will eventually go bad. Modern technology allows these to be 3d printed now though the cost may be prohibitively high.

5. I’ve had 510 threading wear out on me. Not for a long time though.

Some coils absorb faster. Those that don't you can poke holes in them or prime longer. Lower voltage also. You're not giving much detail and the RDA guys will be along soon to talk to you about the rebuildables being better, so.....

Oh oh I’m on! If you want to get the best flavor, ease of use, and cheaper coils then you need an rda. So stop throwing good money after bad using these drop-in coil tanks. It just better in every way so you need to switch. Hopefully this was helpful in answering your question. I seem to be completely oblivious how NOT helpful this has been in addressing your issue.

Update: this was sarcasm and I figured it would be ok since the answers you’ve got has covered all the ways a tank can go bad.

RTAs are great when you are ready.

Some coils go bad faster than others, dependent on a million variables. But I don't think tanks "go bad" unless the FDA talks to them and starts whispering "Eat this vaper's coils, it's not a Juul."

I haven't had that happen yet but yes there are certainly ways to kill a tank. Keep all your spare parts and if you have one you feel you cannot part with, backup bits are not a bad option.

To all those concerned...... I use RTA's also :)

I log all my coils with all my tanks. I usually get 7-10 days out of coils. This one tank has used 3 in 5 days. Something isn't right. The only thing I could think of was the tank was in some way causing it. Its freaking me out.
Counterfeit coils, juice that isn’t flowing fast enough through the wick, too much voltage, all kinds of reasons

Along with gaskets I always worry about stripped screws. I’ve wondered about screw post hole threads but never had an issue, yet. Insulators I’ve wondered about because how do you find out, a short? Unless you keep checking I guess but some of these 510 pins can’t be removed.

Some thoughts (and yes, I'm getting very frustrated too) Different juices? Bad connection somehow? Coils bought on e-bay? Not well primed? Airflow set different? Wattage used different? "Negative " pressure within tank as juice gets lower?
Most of my issues were from not priming well or from not letting coil cool a bit between vapes. Then I broke down and got some off e-bay... half were defective! Now all of sudden, using the same authentic coils I've been using, got 2 from the same 5-pack acting up for no reason. They seem to have restricted airflow (cotton and/or coil installed wrong?) Maybe just a bad lot? Opening a new pack soon and better not happen again!!! By the way, that thing about neg air pressure... when the tank gets about halfway, open it up to let air pressure in... seems to help. Also, I'm OC now about doing "primer puffs" between vapes... helps keep the cotton saturated. I am so wanting a RTA (I actually have a dual coil RDA/RDTA but need a better mod to run it) Tell us the tank and coil details anyway... might help (mod shouldn't matter unless it's an issue with conduction to 510 on tank) Yes, I tend to get a week (or more with TLC and the right juices) but have had coil act up in less than 24 hours and that sucks!

I completely agree with you. But I have become so lazy lately that I just reach for a sub ohm tank to pop a coil in. No work, no fuss. I need help.

The difference between tanks and RTAs is becoming more and more simply a continuing costs issue. It used to be tanks vape quality was just flat out inferior but that distinction has mostly dropped away in cases of good quality coil cartridges. These days RTAs aremostly just cheaper to run.

There is still the “will they suddenly without warning suddenly stop making the coils I like” thing. Without cheap China shipping coil cartridges could lose their shine real fast.
