Simple question, how do the merchants decide, how much flavor percentage to use in their eLiquids?

Do they test different percentages and then decide how much flavor is ok? Who performs these tests? Do the merchants themselves perform these tests or do they recruit other people to test flavored eLiquids? Do they steep the eLiquids before testing?

The reason I'm asking these questions is because I think merchants are over-doing flavor. Not by a small margin but by a HUGE margin. Here's the reason why I think they are overdoing.

I have flavored eLiquids from 4 well-known merchants. I also have my DIY stuff. I don't think I have to buy flavors for a long time. I just mix my PG/VG/Nic and then add 10% (yes, just 10%) flavored eLiquid in it and hell it is "enough" flavored. Imagine, how did I tolerate all that flavor when I was vaping just the flavored eLiquid from those 4 merchants.

From what I understand, merchants make their eLiquids based on their own vaping experiments. Maybe their taste buds have developed (or fkd?) over the time to tolerate all that excessive flavor but people like me find it way too flavored?

The only reason of creating this discussion is to deliver a message to merchants to keep the flavor low or allow the option to reduce flavor. As it is now, it's just way too much flavor. I'm not new to vaping, been vaping since an year but still find most flavors way too perfumed, it's just hard to tolerate so much perfume.

I have eLiquids from Madvapes, Mt Baker Vapor, Mom and pop vapor shop and Velvet Cloud Vapor. I have tested eLiquids from all of the merchants and I use just 10% of their eLiquid in my DIY flavorless eLiquid, enough flavor.

Do you think merchants put too much flavor in their eLiquids?

There are a lot of recipes out there, I suspect that they start with something like that. The less-capable vendors go with that only. The more-capable, it just gives them ideas. There is a B&M vendor near me and he has jugs that he fills the little bottles with. Talking to him, I don't get the impression that he is an artist about it. He speaks about business.

A large vendor who has multiple lab people, may have that one person who just gets inspiration and is supported by management. I know my juice vendor has 4 stores and four mixing labs that are open as the stores are open. I think they would have more opportunity for artistry.

Just my thought.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Frenchfry1942. Makes a lot of sense.

I guess, most merchants just stick with the recipes available over the internet. But food for thought, flavor increases with steeping IMO. If you buy an eLiquid and begin vaping it as soon as you get it, you wouldn't get hit by all that excessive flavor. But people who bulk buy flavored eLiquid, I'm sure they feel what I feel. I used to order multiple bottles of 30/50 ml flavored eLiquids and I still have a lot in my vape-cabinet. As the time passes, the flavor has only increased to the point I cannot vape it. Is it just me or others think the same? Is it true that the flavor increases with more steeping? Do you think I should remove the caps off the bottles to decrease flavor?

Yes, probably 95% of the time, I get better flavor over time. I test the flavor when I get it, do steeping/aerating measures and then test it again at about the four-day point. Some, though, I have forgotten about for several weeks and they taste better yet. But, some don't.

As you leave the bottle open, it is ALL ingredients that start to evaporate, at different speeds. I live in Arizona, so things evaporate pretty quickly. I do like to get any chemical or alcohol smell out.

You might want to try to add some unflavored ejuice to them to dilute the strong flavor. Determine your nic level and vg/pg ratio and mix in some unflavored base. I use unflavored 50/50 - 1.2% base and actually like it as is. It does well to dilute the stronger flavors and make them vapeable.

Unflavored base is cheap and available at many internet suppliers under DIY.
