It's a terrible law! The best reason to buy from vape shops is getting to try before you buy. juice is more expensive in shops than online but getting to sample them in a vape lounge makes up for the prices. I have a bag full of different juices that everyone loves but me. Who doesn't like Boba's Bounty? Me, yes, I'm weird. That's why it's a bad law that hopefully doesn't spread.

i dont live in California but i feel for you out there that is absolutely absurd. I would hope it is up to the store owner to choose how he or she operates the establishment. whether it be a retail sort of setting, rather than a vape lounge type setting. Never the less hope all goes well, ridiculous things like this have been purposed all over the nation at one point or another on the city level.

So i just found out today after work that the law has been passed. no more vaping in shops. And there will be random sting operations to check if us employees are carding people and if we are vaping in the shop or not. I think it's pretty stupid. What if a cowrker forgets to card someone or vapes in the shop by reflex, do i get in trouble too just because im there? And It's a vape shop. How can i not vape in a vape shop? The point is to help customers quit smoking. How can we help them quit if they cant even try out the flavors to see how they taste?

What do you mean with carding? Asking for the ID? They're doing that all the time for buying booze / ciggs here in sweden.
But not being able to vape in a vape shop? It should be up to the vapeshop owner to detirmine that ......

In general, the ordinance sounds good. Hear me out before blasting me. The idea I believe is to limit second hand smoke. There are two groups who come up with such an law: (1) Big tobacco who wants you to keep smoking and (2) those who ignorantly want to protect people from each other. I would guarantee your council does not have a clue about vaping and almost certainly fits in group 2. So get as many vapers as possible and come to the council meetings. Be prepared to discuss the issue intelligently by doing research before you get there. Know the subject and work politely with them so they begin to understand for themselves. Shouting will make them shut you down or at least quit listening.

yes, carding is asking for ID

the anti-vaping lobby here in california have leveraged their stance by claiming it's too easily accessible for underaged people (kids).

Ah i see. Well i don't mind carding for ppl under 18. As it's the same rules for tobacco and it's 20 for booze.
But not being able to vape in a vapeshop is just absurd... As i've no local vape shops i've to order online and trust reviews, however i'd love an vapeshop were i could 1. try flavours 2. meet new friends 3. hang out to talk about vaping.

But here in sweden vaping isn't big at all. Were i live i'm pretty much the only vaper that vapes in public... I havent seen anyone else vape here. And yes i do get tons of looks but i don't care.
I don't vape at the buss though because they would throw me out. ^^

@loyalfan There's no secondhand smoke from vaping, it's been proved.

Thats an awful idea, it's like to forbid driving in a car market. I don't think that ordinance will pass.

Yes, it will pass, that and much more. They never stop. I have said before in these forums, and it bears repeating; it isn't about your health, or your safety, or even The Children®. It is about control, and another revenue stream that can be tapped and exploited. I myself live in the Peoples Democratic Republic of New York, and I am just waiting for something like this to happen statewide. It is, unfortunately, only a matter of time, probably right after they legalize you-know-what.

That being said, I am now stockpiling necessary items, such as kanthal wire, lots of spare heads and parts. I am buying 5 gallons of 100mg nic liquid, which should hold me until they put me in the ground. Imagine that---a vaper-prepper. *checks classified ad for land in Montana*

So the city council of Long Beach in California may pass an ordinance to regulate ecigs as tobacco and one huge thing that irritated me about what the ordinance says, is that you wont be able to vape in a vape shop. I work at a shop, and it's going to be frustrating not being able to vape while working, and it's going to suck even more for the customers that want to try out some new flavors to buy. If city council passes the ordinance then how are we going to help people try to quit smoking, if they can't even try first hand how the device work and how the flavors taste? Tell me how you feel about this.

What irritates me more by this and other similar laws is it forces vapers to reside in carcinogen filled smoking areas. Supposedly this is for the benefit of public health?

I thought vape stores and lounges would be exempt from that law? I could be wrong, but I think I read that somewhere.

Sorry to say but yep, you are wrong. I haven't read all the posts so forgive me if it's been said. A beautiful vape shop with a big, comfortable lounge that has never been used opened not far from me. A local law was passed making vaping indoors illegal just before the place opened. I feel really bad for the owners trying to make a go of a small business that was hamstrung out of the gate. I am sure they wouldn't have sunk all that money into designing and building that really nice vape lounge area that has never been used. Also the need to take samples outside the store to try them...maybe won't be bad when it warms up but not so fun when it's below zero. Even harder for them is less than 10 miles away where I live there are really no laws governing vaping as of yet and yes, there is a really busy B&M here.
