I have a coil that has just been hitting like a super champ.
but after 3-4 days it's starting to look like it needs a quick dry burn to freshen things up.
i tried this once before, and munched the coil trying to get the wick out.
i want to try again...
i don't over pack my coils with cotton, but they do swell up to the point where I feel there might be a trick I'm missing on getting the cotton out without messing up my coil.

tell me oh wise ones...

You don't say what atty, or the inner diameter of the coil... so no use there. If you fit a tapered cotton wick - they insert and pull out relatively easy.

I'm guessing that you're using either 30, 32 or even thinner ga wire... or you're just replacing wicks in a stock BCC coil and you didn't wrap the coil in the first place.
If thats the case... that is part of the problem. Those small wire coils are very fragile as far as distortion is concerned.

On the ego / evod heads it's really simple. You can actually take one of the wicks out with a pair of tweesers without even taking the head apart if you are super careful. I've bought some wicks from PBDragon and plan to use the existing heads that I have from now until eternity (also got the coil but haven't tried to recoil anything yet).

Sorry,
Quite right , not enough info.
It's an RM2, 28g wire, 9 wraps, boiled cotton, 1/16 drill bit. So that makes it a micro as I understand it.
Back to you...

Ah... a RDA.

Another guess... both ends of the wick extend down into the juice well?

Perhaps try a tapered wick that stops at the far end of the coil... with the fat end in the juice well. In other words, only one end of the wick flares out into the well, feeding the coil from the "fat" end.

Burn it up!

If you really want it out and it is stuck burn it dry and to a crisp!

Love making the cotton flame and disappear!

Ain't no cotton gonna refuse to come out without damaging my coil!

crap! i never thought of that

i've been damaging at least half my coils trying to change wicks...

maybe i won't have to turn in my microcoil-card after all...

thank you (again) Karen

Right.
It worked this time.
I didn't need to burn the wick out either ! But its a good trick to have up my sleeve.
Burnt the cr*p off in 10 seconds, re wicked and good as new. 6 minutes total.
I frickin' love the RM2.

For the record, my wick extends just a few mm from the sides of the coil. Just before it touches the side of the Rm2.
They're very stubby, but seem to work well..

If I feel the wick is a bit stubborn I just pull on both sides. The wick just breaks in the middle and then comes out easily in two parts. This way no pressure is transferred to the coil.

Most excellent suggestion there Matthee. For a cotton wick especially, this should work really well.

Mine usually come out fine. On the rare occasion they don't, I snip the cotton off one end of the coil with the same scissors I use to trim up fresh wicks. Then it pulls right out the other end.

so Karen's a fire bug . . . .. . who knew?

Yep, easy peasy. I rarely have trouble removing a wick on 30-28ga wire and a simple snip at one end or the other will care of it. OP may be stuffing too much wick into the hole...as it were.:)

I saw that!!!

When I am at work, my three days away from home, I don't have stuff to build a new coil. But I do have cotton! So, I have found that if a little pull on the wick to remove it doesn't work the fire will!

At home I usually fiddle with the cotton till it slides out! I find fiddling quite enjoyable, but only at home!
