When I was using just the carto, I could tell either by it starting to taste burnt or hard to draw.

Now that I'm using a tank with a carto in the middle of it, does that still apply? I don't know. I seem to have been using this one for longer than I expected. I figure they last a little longer because they are keep so moist. How do I know when I should replace the carto? Are there any other signs? Do you have a personal rule you use like, replace after so many ML of refills?

I’m asking this because I understand that if it gets to old it can break down and make a mess.

I must be way less tolerant of a stiff draw than others; the draw tightness becomes intolerable for me in significantly less than a week unless I've gotten my hands on a truly remarkable carto by sheer dumb luck. I read of others getting weeks to a month or more out of the same carto. :^o

So yeah, a too-stiff draw is what makes me change a carto.

EDIT: For scale, I used to do RYO unfiltereds, and I would toss a cigar with a stiff draw (always bought the large ring gauge ones). I never wanted to work all that hard to get the smoke.
