How hot is too hot for batteries?

I live in Arizona, where summer temps can hit 115+ during the afternoon. This can make a closed vehicle 160+ inside a sealed passenger compartment; death to batteries. I work evenings and bring a spare battery, which I have been keeping in my backpack in the trunk. I know the passenger compartment would be too much for a battery sitting there, but would the trunk be ok? I know it would be cooler, but don't know how much.

I'm not sure. I do know that having a battery around hot temperatures messes with the chemistry, and at the very least will destroy the useful charge capacity and cycles of your battery.

Maybe get one of those smallish cooler snack bags, throw an ice pack in there with it? Doesn't seem too crazy to me to have chillin in the trunk..

Unfortunately my work has a uniform code which won't allow anything attached to my belt. Bringing it inside is not what I would like to do, but I may have no other option, short of buying a car fridge.

Break time is at a premium because of needing to walk all the way across the building, downstairs, and then all the way back to the other side of the building where we are allowed to vape/smoke. Kills about 1/3rd of the break as it is. If I need a fresh battery, relaxation and vaping time is minimized. The trip to the parking lot is just as fast and I can vape on my way out/in.

Just wanna toss in my 2 cents. I struggle with this same problem working at a county park in the summer, my batteries get hot. I don't know if it's bad for them but it seems it might be. My advice - bring your backpack or whatever into work and leave it in a locker cubby or wherever you're allowed to keep your stuff. What you dont want to do is store them in your pocket as it's possible to have them short out on your keys pocket change or other metal stuff on your person, also don't want them to get banged up.

+1 for the battery holder!

A car fridge will wipe out the cars battery before you get off work.

Unless the cooler is refrigerated or vacuum sealed ice packs don't stand much chance after a couple hours here. Frozen bottles of water can get room temp in an hour in there.

Kinda sounds like your batteries might not stand a chance? I vote for battery case in a locker or something.
