How important is it to inhale the vapor into your lungs?

I was wondering the same thing this past weekend. I normally inhale into my mouth, then inhale into lungs... just like I did when I used to smoke. I tired this past weekend with 3 different juices to just hold vapor in my mouth, and then "exhale" through nose. HORRIBLE!! The vapor was very rough. It burned my nose, throat, etc. When I inhale into my lungs and then do a nasal exhale, all that roughness is gone. So my theory is that something is being absorbed by the lungs. I'm guessing that "roughness" is the nicotine (18mg). So while I'm not disputing that you can get the nicotine from your mouth/nasal membranes, I believe it is also entering through the lungs. Just my opinion.

Not to be miss smarty pants but I just do what feels good at any given time.. Cant really say I would have a same constant way of vaping... Lovely clouds go in and then they come out... Sometimes more sometimes less.. I also rotate between a clearomizer and cartomizers so that too makes a difference at least for me

LOL. I tried it immediately before I got to your post. I wish I'd waited. :D
I mouth/lung/nose all the time, but mouth/nose is one big ouch.

Perhaps try with a 0% nic ejuice? When im in need for some strong vape, I always use 18% which is far
more of a 'hit' to the throat than the 8% I use when in a chain vaping mood..

Regarding absorption. as long as some vapor is left behind, and given the ability to absorb even through your fingers, id hazard a guess that you are absorbing at all points of contact. If anything, it just takes longer to get into your blood than other places.

As a recent ex smoker, I hold for a few seconds in my mouth, then inhale. The longer you hold it first, the stronger the flavor.

If you're asking because you want to know the best method for nicotine absorption, then that leads me to believe that maybe you aren't getting that "buzz" or "rush" you got from analogs. If that's the case then maybe your nic level in your juice is too low. When I first started vaping I began with 24mg nic. After a little while I worked down to less, and less. I now vape 6mg and sometimes have to slow down because it hits me too hard. My suggestion would be start with a nic level that satisfies your cravings, and work your way down from there.

But i'm not saying go get 24mg juice. It all depends on what you smoked, for how long, your body, etc.

It delivers a better tasting draw when I pull into the mouth, inhale, then exhale through the nose. The nicotine will be delivered once you draw into the mouth and is further delivered through the inhale. I was a true-blue smoker for many years and had no problems with things being "harsh" but, I've tried the "pull straight into the lungs" method and it is a little too harsh on my lungs. And this was off of a standard AGO G5 650 mah battery much less an 18650 mod!

I suspect this may just be because the vapor has more time to cool while in the lungs. I've been experimenting a good bit with both types of inhale (lungs vs mouth/throat) and the only real burning sensation I've noticed is when I inhale deeply (constantly drawing so the coil gets hotter, thus so does the vapor) and exhale immediately like that. Holding it in the lungs seems to cool the temperature down by the time it exits so it's not as bad.
