How inconvenient is this?

I've taken the plunge and my MV902 should be arriving tomorrow. I'm nervous and excited about the prospect of using a PV and quitting analogs for good.

How have you all adapted to just not being able to grab a pack of smokes and head out? Have you found yourself in an easy rhythm with grabbing all of your parts/accessories, etc.? For you women...does everything fit easily into your purse?

I think I can grasp the concept, but the overwhelming change in behavior is something I'm still trying to wrap my head around. It seems like I will need to get up much earlier to prepare my vaping for the day.

Any tips, stories or tricks someone can share on how they have adapted?

One last question that I guess I haven't posted in the right spot and with all of the reading I've done I still don't have any answer: When speaking in terms of juice...what would be a typical ratio of ml to # of analogs? Would a 30ml bottle of juice be the equivalent of 30 analogs? Thanks for any info.

Thanks.:)

Hi, welcome to the forum neighbor.

Getting ready for a day of vaping is no more complicated than it was for smoking, just the supplies are different; so before I used to check my purse for a pack of smokes (open it and count how many I have left and probably grab another pack if I didn't like what I saw), then I'd dig around and make sure I have a working lighter (shake it and see how much liquid is still remaining, maybe buy another on my way to work)

Then there's the spare matches or lighter I had to keep in my car too. and the mints or gum I had to always have on hand.

Now, with vaping I check to make sure I have my main battery and a spare.
Then, depending on what method you use:

*If you are going to use cartomizers (atty/cart in one) you just grab a couple of those on the way out (fill them at night so they're ready in the morning).
*If you use carts you'll need a small bottle of juice, a paperclip, and a paper towel.
*if you are going to drip, just bring the juice.

I think the average vaper uses about 3mL of juice per day.

You start getting obsessive about "stocking up"... especially with all the FDA nonsense. And it only takes ONE time of forgetting your stuff, or not bringing enough juice, to cure you of that forever :) I have a little 2-sided lure box (wally world, about 6 bucks) that holds enough juice and stuff for a week! Plus I keep a backup box mod and a usb passthrough in the car, spare stuff at home.... about 10ml and a few of those nasty pre-loaded carts in the glovebox (emergency rations, lol). You get used to it... money-keys-smokes-lighter-phone used to be my "walking out the door" check.... now it's money-keys-egos-kitbox-phone. No big whup.

ml = analogs... well, there are so many variables, it's really different for everyone. What strength? What are your vaping habits? How much are you actually inhaling & not just blowing out? See what I mean?

As an example, I used to smoke 1 1/2 PAD of Camels or American Spirits. I now vape anywhere from 3-5 ml at 25mg/ml daily. Just eyeball how much you go through... you'll figure it out. A 30ml bottle (for me) would last about a week, maybe more.

When I'm at home I like to direct-drip. When I'm heading out I use the PCC that game with my kit (Volcano Magma 510). It's about the same size as a pack of analogs holds 2 batteries and 5 carts- at this point that would last me a whole weekend of heavy vaping. Once you get used to it it's not much different from grabbing cigs, lighter, and gum!

It is a little more inconvient at first but you'll find a rhythm. I usually try to refill at night so morning I'm ready to go. Speed will also increse as you get used to how to use the equipment. I've found it's a decision I am making because I don't want to smoke anymore so any inconvenience is the price I'm paying. As a side note, analogs taste awful now!

I have a carry case a little bigger than a pack of cigs that I put in my purse and sometimes just stick my pv in my purse in the cell phone pocket. If I'm going out for any length of time I carry extras in case my battery dies, or cartridge needs refilling.

The amount of juice you'll need varies between people. I personally have been vaping a lot and will reduce it at some point but in the meantime, I've gone from using 18mg to 9-12mg in the last 2 months and about 30-40ml a week. I'm not sure exactly the amount because I use different flavors and typically dilute my 18 or 24mg juice in half.

Good luck!

Hi tee6395. Glad you made it here. It's an awesome place!
I have been vaping for over 2 weeks now. I started on a weekend so I'd have 2 days to play around with everything. I totally understand your feelings on adapting. I would have small panic attacks....WHERE ARE MY CIGS AND ASHTRAY!!!! LOL I missed them at first. But I just picked up my pv and vaped myself through them. It got easier and easier. Day 2 was the hardest, but I did it!!!! I smoked 1 1/2 - 2 packs a day for 30 years.
I know you can do it too!
Now I've gotten my routine down a bit. On Sunday night I prefill a 10 ml bottle of my all day vape, along with 2 or 3 3ml bottles of others that I like.

I also make sure my batteries are all charged every night. I use a drip tip, so I don't have to worry about filling carts, etc. I did at first and I think that helped keep my hands busy.

I have a small carrying case that it all fits into. It does all fit in my purse (and I carry a small one).
It's really no hassle at all, and I think having the little extra things to do (such as dripping every so often) helps you with breaking the habit of smoking analogs.

As for the # of analogs vs ml of juice I'm not sure but this is the way I think....
I smoked avg 30 Marb Light 100's @ 1.2 mg nicotine each = 36 mg nicotine/day
I vape (avg) 2 ml x 18ml = 36 mg nicotine/day

I could be way off, but I don't have any nic fits, and I don't seem to be getting too much.

Hope I helped instead of confused. lol

Thank you all soooo much. I figured it would become second nature eventually, but it is also good to get affirmation. I just wanted a loose number so I would have some idea of ml of juice to analog. For all I knew everyone goes through at least 30ml a day. LOL!

I will need to get myself organized. That I can tell right off the bat. The whole thing sounds quite exciting and strange. I turned 40 this year. I came from the generation that thought we'd be living like the Jetsons in Y2K. For the first time ever...I feel like we might be! E cigs??? That is soo crazy, but the best alternative to tobacco I've every seen.

Thanks again guys. You are really a wonderful, informative group.

Waving back...Hi neighbor!!

Hehehehe, I remember I refused to throw away my lighter for the first month. Somehow just thinking about leaving the house without a working lighter was a panic situation for me. I know it's not rational.

Finally, I just bought one of those long BBQ type of lighters for b-day candles or pilot lights or what have you and got rid of my lighter at last. I said to myself, "there, are you happy now? here's a lighter for 'just in case'! now toss that little one out"

Have you found yourself in an easy rhythm with grabbing all of your parts/accessories, etc.?
We all find our rhythm eventually, although that rhythm may change a few times along the way.
You will try different things, and find what works for you.

When speaking in terms of juice...what would be a typical ratio of ml to # of analogs?
There is no ratio of milliliters of juice to number of analogs, the main reason being we don't have hard and unequivocal data on how much nicotine we absorb via vaping. The most common belief, based on a few studies, is that we absorb about 10% of the available nicotine. Others who see flaws in the study and have done their own nicotine testing say that they are absorbing as much as 40% of the available nicotine.

The best way to deal with this is to not worry about it, and instead worry about how much juice you use each day. Based on a couple of polls that have been done here, people generally use anywhere from 1ml-5ml per day, with the average falling somewhere in the 2-3ml per day area, although I suspect the numbers are trending a little higher.

I've been using my e-cig for a little over a month now. I roughly go through 10ml a week. (it really depends on my mood and the flavor of the juice I'm using and the vapes thickness.)
I was actually surprised at how easy it was to switch over from analogs. yeah making sure you have everything is important, (at least until you can pop in to a corner store and pick up some juice/batteries/atomizer). the only time I've had cigs since receiving my 510 was when my e-cig batteries were dead. Now I have a hello 16 so I don't have to worry about that again ;)

But I really don't have any urges for a "real" cigarette. Every once in a while I'll have a passing thought for one, but the e-cig takes care of that easily. the hardest time I have is when I've been drinking and I've found that if I go to a stronger flavored juice it takes care of the urge.

It is inconvenient, but you can adapt to it. Using the two piece models like the KR808 makes it much simpler IMO. Grab a pack of cartomizers, a few batteries, and you are set for the day. Think of the cartos like a pack of cigs and the batteries like lighters.

I agree...

inconvenient...but you adapt your own style...I love to tinker ...so I am always coming up with different ways to travel with my pv's....ie different cases, attys, cartos, pcc's...etc....but I am loving inconvenience as opposed to analogs... :)
you will figure out what is easiest for you...after a week of vaping it will come easy...

I'm only 2-and-a-half weeks into it and I'm still going through the learning curve, experimenting with different gear and liquids.

A couple of things that occurred with me are:

1) Initially, I was giving myself headaches and such because I ordered all 24mg liquid because I smoked almost 2 boxes of full flavors a day and figured I needed the strong nic. levels. What I didn't account for was that I don't get the same satisfaction per puff that a cigarette would give me. Because of this I vape about 3X what I had originally figured I would. I've started drastically cutting the liquid with PG and the headaches have gone away. What nic. level you need is going to depend on both what your body's accustomed to as well as how much vaping you do.

2) Originally my #1 priority was throat hit. I'd chuckle to myself reading posts where people talked about throat hit of a certain liquid being too harsh and wanting more vapor. I've been frustrated by the inconsistency of the throat hit I've been able to achieve (hence my current experimental stage to find my "sweet spot").

As I vape more and chase the dream of getting a satisfying throat hit every time I take a puff, I find the desire for a REALLY strong throat hit decreasing. I've even started adding a little VG and enjoy the increased vapor (Though the videos people post still annoy me - "Wow!! You can get a big cloud of vapor from a 30 second drag?!?" - That's sarcasm since you can't see my eyes rolling).

Like others have touched on, the reason PVs are such an easy transition from cigarettes is that they approximate the behavior (while delivering nicotine). This applies to grabbing accessories too.

The only thing that's vastly less convenient about the PVs in my experience so far is that you can't stop in a random store and grab more juice.

I am thinking I may be the only one who found adapting to e-cigs more convenient. But I had also been smoking RYO for the past few years. Before I would have to sit and make enough cigs for the day plus a few for when I got home. Now all I do is make sure I have a few carts filled, batts charged and I'm out the door. I have a cute little multi-purpose tool pouch that hold 1 eGo batt, 1 atty, & 3 carts very nicely.
