I've quit smoking cigarettes for a month now and I'm still coughing up the black speckly stuff. How long does this usually happen?

Everyone is different.

I went about a month. My sister, who not only smokes cigarettes (still) but also that wacky stuff has always gotten clear lung x-rays and exams. We both had smoked 25+ years. Go figure.

I smoked a pack a day of Camel 99s for 30 years. It took about 2 months before the stuff I coughed up was completely clear of tar, and another month after that before I quit coughing up fluids on a regular basis.

Now, 6 months after quitting, I only get an occasional light cough when something irritates my throat, and it's a dry cough.

how long before your senses and and taste come back thanks jackie

My smell doesn't seem any better or worse. Not that I can recognize anyways. My taste, funny story, actually completely went away about 3 weeks after I quit smoking. I'm pretty sure it was vapors tongue. I increased my water intake by 100%. Going from drinking about no water a day to at least 3 bottles a day. I'm at month off cigs now and I can totally taste my juice again but food doesn't seem to be noticeably better

tomorrow will be 2 weeks smoke free for me, from 25 to 30 a day to zero the next.

have not coughed up anything at all.have had noticable differences in taste and smell. also notice a slightly better skin tone/circulation.

one of the funny little things i noticed since quitting, non health related, is that when i clean my car, it stays clean.no more ashs all over the dash and blown back in on the back seats or floor.

sometimes its the little things i enjoy, what can i say. ive also learned to love the constant '...' looks i get at stop lights when im wailing on my ego twist blowing out huge clouds compared to the ....ty little cigarette there smoking lol.

Ahh, recall the large gooey masses of dark flem from when I smoked. Been many, many moons since I last hacked one up.

Basically you'll keep kicking it out till it's gone. You body is just getting rid of the built up crap. Has nothing to do with the vape, except the vape helps clean you out more thoroughly. Once you get the last carton of smokes out of your lungs, you should be goober free, least till you get a cold, and then it will be greenish and not brackish. lmao.

Whenever I've quit, I've never had coughing up stuff happen. I have had other weird things happen (mild flu-like symptoms), but no cough. But then, I mostly did RYO.

I do notice when I smoke less and vape more I get pins-and-needles in my lungs a bit, especially if there is significant PG content.

One of those "other" things is that I had been suffering from increasingly persistent low back pain for months. The back pain was especially bad first thing in the morning and I had started to blame our expensive and relatively new mattress. Well... my back is 200% better! It is not stiff at the end of the day and not sore in the morning. Slight occasional nagging "soreness" but no real pain. Could this be related? I truly believe that it is. I mean, stranger things have happened, right?
