Thinking about picking up a large quantity of batteries but I want to know how long they would last in storage before I buy a lot.

Anyone know?

Does anyone know if 18490 batteries are not being produced anymore? Seems like every website I check they’re all out of stock or clearance.

Batteries start degrading from the moment they roll off the production line. So I suppose the storage time is indefinite, but the longer you store them the less well they will perform when you decide to use them.
I read on battery university that 18650s should be stored at 3.84 volts.

I don't know, to be honest, how long you can store your batteries, because it depends when they were made and how long they sat in a warehouse. I believe not storing at full charge is best for the life of the battery. I would check their charge and store them at lower than full capacity (2/3 or so is what I have heard as best, but as stated above, opinions vary). You can check the charge every month or so if you are concerned. But I think three years is a fairly good estimate although honestly I'm not sure if there's one specified timeframe, only estimates.

I have also heard keeping them cool helps.

I have not had issues finding my preferred 18560 batteries. But I only use approved vendors in the US, they aren't showing up on "clearance" or anything but these batteries are used in many applications. It may be that some vendors feel the 27 series is the route of the future (and it may well be for many vapers) which may be why you are seeing that. I think that I am unlikely to switch to the newer battery sizes, I really have disliked that formfactor in my hand and weight. Maybe I am just used to what I am used to, but I'd like to see those mods around a while and doing better than what I'm currently seeing.

Best of luck,

Anna

I like the smaller mods that use one 18650 bat. When I started buying batteries I never expected them to last so long so I bought a lot. I don't vape at real high wattage so maybe that's why. I was getting ready to buy more as there are usually sales around Valentines day but after checking my crisper I still have 8 more brand new. Guess I can wait another year.

I think the low wattage has a lot to do with it. My experience has been the same. Started with ego batteries and I wore out quite a few of them as well as an MVP2 but haven’t had to retire a 18650, 18490 or 18350 yet after 3-1/2 years of use. Have 12 to 15 of each and I religiously use all of each size before I start the rotation again. I’m surprised they have lasted this long without any really noticeable degradation.

Vaping at 7 to 9 Watts and having enough batteries to limit the number of charging cycles seem to be a good thing for battery longevity so far. Think the newest battery I have is two years old.

I'm assuming you're talking about the AW 18490 batteries?

The AW battery plant in China suffered from some sort of flooding issue recently, and all the suppliers seem to be out of stock of all AW batteries.

If you can't wait for AW to restock their product, you should be able to use the 18500 Purple Efest IMR. Admittedly, not as good a battery as AW's. Also, this is a flat top and not button top, so if planning to use in an older Provari it won't work. The older Provari's require the use of a button top IMR battery.

A LOT of people will disagree with the following statement but..... I buy the Trustfire 18500 1300mAH (realistically around 950 mAh) button tops from FastTech for my Provaris and they work superbly. A full days vaping at 13 watts on one battery. About the same as i was getting from my AWs. The last batch i bought around 16 months ago are still going strong.
Stupidly long delivery times but less than half the price of an AW.
