Guys,

For a beginner, roughly how long could one expect a cart to last assuming you use re-fills? Want to have a rough idea of how many to order when I buy my e-cig...from what I can gather, beginners tend to vape much more...

Also, I'm a bit confused about the atomiser...how long should they last? Is it best to buy a single spare or a pack of 5 spares?

Actually, parts are often interchangeable between different "brands" or models within the same style.

For example, the classic penstyle is nearly always interchangeable, with some exceptions. So, the parts of the DSE 801, the RN 4072, the NJoy NCig, the Sedansa Diva, and many other penstyle ecigs are fully interchangeable.

As well the minis. The DSE 901 and 901b, the RN4075, and other mini style ecigs that have been named something by the various retailers are all interchangeable. Similarly, a whole bunch of the super minis, eg, the Njoy Npro and the Puresmoker Peewee.

Bottom line, as long as you're looking within the same style of ecig, interchangeability of parts is more likely than not. It's always best to check here or with a seller if you're not sure though.

If you are re-filling Topping off with liquid your cart will last a lot longer.

I use 1 cart for approx 4 days.
Some use them for weeks and wash the fiber .
Personal choice really.

Atomisers are funny things.
Some never work - some last for weeks.
It is always best to have spares .

Different models are not usually compatable.
Even similar models by different manufacturers often dont work.
If its your first time, I suggest you buy all your kit from the same place to get you started.

So, if a blank lasts for about 4 refills, and you smoke 4 of them a day, then you should count on using 1 cart a day, right?

The carts themselves can last a whole lot longer. I think the other poster was referring to how many "filled" carts he or she went through. I can make a given cart last for weeks. Some wash out the filling and reuse; some refill with inexpensive polyester batting.

Edit: Keef beat me to it. :)

I would agree completely about buying juice versus the cartridges. I've only had my new ecig for two days, but I bought truckloads of juice. Thank heaven, as I went through the carts in no time. I studied everything on this website for a couple of weeks before buying. It as worth the time! Make sure you watch all the videos.....they teach you a lot. Refilling carts is not brain surgery......but I'm sure glad I watch the videos on this website. They explain just what to do to refill carts. This website is a treasure trove of information. I'd have never ventured in to e-cigs with out all these helpful videos and guides. Okay, I'm done sounding like a suck-up. :D

Bloody hell, Yvilla, just checked out your SD link....how the hell do you manage to keep that thing in your gob??!! Looks incredibly uncomfortable!! lol!

Everyone thinks they are much bigger than they really are. Take a look at Trog's photo showing the size comparison with various ecigs - the SD is not much bigger than a mini, and is shorter than a penstyle. Just a little wide at the bottom. :D

Not really .

The end of the cart needs to be moist to produce good vapour.

If you vape heavily you need to top off more.

Its not really much of a chore or I dont find it one.

I decant my liquid in to a small dropper bottle it takes about 10 seconds to top off the cart.

I am using the 901 atomiser style.

yvilla may have a differen experience with the classic penstyle.

I'm at probably somewhere between 2 to 3 ml a day. I also don't find topping off is any bother.

But as Keef said, since I'm using a penstyle SD (special order), my carts are much bigger. I can usually get 10 to 15 drops in the cart on a top-off, so time between my refills is longer.

The bigger carts that hold more liquid are why there's many of us who prefer the penstyle atomizer, even though there is a big contingent who love and recommend 901s. It really boils down to personal preference.

This seems to me to be the big disadvantage of refilling, Keef, that you need to go through all the palaver of unscrewing, refilling, screwing back on just for a few drags...is there are more efficient or longer lasting way?

I think the limited number of puffs is a blessing in disguise (at least for me and prolly many others). I and many others gave up on refilling carts along time ago and now just drip 3 or 4 drops on to the steele bridge of the atomizer which will get you about 10-15 GOOD puffs .Thats your queue to put
it down then for a ciggy break .Without that 10-15 puffs break you'l probably find yourself chain vape'ing continually.

It IS a bit of a pain when you first start refilling Floyd... but after a while it's not much different that the ritual of lighting your lighter, or striking a match was. ;) You can also refill in "batches" so you have your cartidges all ready filled and can just change them when one gets low.

Agh, you bring up a point there, Mixxy, about having cart.s pre-filled...how do you store them to stop them drying out? Do they come with caps/lids? Or should just just prepare enough pre-fills for you to use over the next couple of hous?

Rita recently made a video on how to fill cartidges using a syringe (plus a couple of other great videos!) and I think this is the video where she used one of those plastic storage containers that hold medication for each day. Hers I think had little boxes to hold 14 days of pills, so she used one side for "ready to go" filled cartidges, and then the other side had the ones ready to wash and refill.
