How long does your nichrome build last?

So I recently started using mostly N80 as opposed to kanthal and frankly I'm not sure as to when I'm supposed to rebuild. I was recently rewicking a simple microcoil build I made for a co-worker and after taking the cotton out and rinsing and dry firing I noticed that the coils looked rusted? The build is only 2 weeks old at most. I thought these builds were supposed to last longer than this. Is it still ok to vape on? Because it doesn't look good.

I mostly have fused claptons in my attys now with N80 as the core wires and KA1 as the outer so immediately I was concerned because I worried that if my coil was "rusting" I might not see it because the nichrome is under the kanthal.

Well I decided to rewick one of my attys tonight and after rinsing and dry firing, yeah, I noticed the "rust". This build is also only about two weeks old. So please tell me, is this still good? And if not, what am I doing wrong because I know people use these builds longer than two weeks.

I'm new to the nichrome as well ad am seeing the same thing. My builds are about 2 months old and still fire fine and perform just like new. I'm not sure either but would like to know too.
2 months old? So how does it look after 2 months? I still haven't gotten an answer to if I'm supposed to keep vaping on coils that look like this. I already threw them away and made new ones but I'd really like to know how to make them last longer.

Did you dry burn and then rinse? I just do that as many times as it takes to get em clean.

Yes. Dry burn glowing hot then cold rinse always. My question is if it looks like this:

Is it still safe to vape on?

Well, I'm not a doctor, but I vaped on a nichrome build that looked like that for a month. It didn't seem to affect anything flavor or vapor wise.

You're not a doctor, can't you just go consult the Oracle?? Jk. Yeah none of us are doctors...just experiments if you think about it [emoji23]

True story. As long as there isn't metal degradation I don't worry about it. If you're super concerned, grab an old toothbrush and try to hit it up, maybe a screw driver to rake across the coils. I wouldn't worry though. Kanthal is my go to lately and it burns a little cleaner for longer.

Yeah that looks fine. I've vaped on fused claptons with all nichrome 80 for 2+ months no issues. I do dry burn and clean my coils with a water soaked q-tip every couple days or so. I basically change them when they turn black haha.

The coils on my mutation x v4 (above pic) are less than two weeks old. 2x 26g N80 cores with a 32g N60 wrap. The coils on my Petri are 4 core semi-flattened claptons with all 30g N80. They look like they've been used for over a month but I installed them on Sunday. Juice will make your coils look much darker than they actually are.

I haven't let my coils get black like that at all so far. I was just concerned about the dusty rust sort of look that they had. Maybe I'm just not rising them enough. I've replaced the build in that atty like twice since I took that pic already anyway just because I like making fresh builds, but it would be nice to know if I made a really good one that it could last for months.

The darkness to those coils are just because they're soaked in juice. When they're clean, they have a green-ish tint to them after use.
