Whoa! Guess you just haven't found the right *ahem* atty. :D

It depends on the atty, juice and voltage you're vaping at. Some atty's last a day some last months. Cleaning it out might help it. But in my personal experience, once an atty starts to lose it's edge, it's down hill from there.

I'm using a Joye 510 at standard voltage (do you know what that is, by the by?). I vape pretty regularly.

Is there something you could suggest? I have one more Joye Atty to switch to, but when I order again if I could find something better that would obviously be preferable.

Attys deteriorate with use, mostly from the coil - the heating part - getting gunked with fluids. The options are: clean them or toss them. Cleaning isn't that hard to do, but it is a must. I have an atty that is still going strong at four months - but I've been cleaning it all along too. At two and a half weeks, if you haven't cleaned it at all you are over due.

The other thing you will probably get a bazillion reccommendations for is to switch to cartos. That combines the atty and the cartridge into one unit. And those are meant to be disposable. Many people like them, I don't. There are many types, and that can become an entire $$$ path in itself, determining which one you like. The taste experience may be lighter than what you get from an atty.

See here about cleaning attys:

If you stick with attys, regardless you should have more than the two that came with your kit on hand. I never have less than three spares. Some times you get a dud (hasn't happened to me yet...) some times they just quit sooner than you expect them too. As a newbie you never want to get caught cold, with no working hardware at all. Get three more for backup.

......But my question remains, how long should an atty last before being replaced?

Your atty should last about a month, give or take about 30 days....:)
If you keep it damp, but not too wet, don't overheat it too often, it can last a month or two.
The trick is to keep it clean, damp and cool, tough enough for someone with experience,
and near impossible for a beginner. :)

I destroyed a bunch of perfectly good attys starting out, until I got the hang of it, knowing
when it need more juice, or a cleaning.

Keep a couple spares, as murphy's law states an atty will burn out in inverse proportion to the
number of attys you have on hand. (Murphy was an optimist...)
