I'm transitioning to all VG, but I don't have many non-PG flavorings yet. As I stock up, I'm using my PG-based flavorings at low percentages. This is working FAR better than I expected.
My earliest recipes after quitting smoking used 15-20% flavoring (mostly TFA, Capella, and FW). As my taste buds rebounded I preferred 10-12%. When I found stronger flavorings (mostly FlavourArt), I was pleased that they were just as flavorful with only 3-5%.
A couple weeks ago I changed my base to all VG and nothing tasted as strong to me. It took half-again as much flavoring to get the same taste. I decided I just don't want to inhale that much flavoring, so I'd just have to get used to it. I mixed my strongest (pg-based) flavors at just 1%. TFA's Caramel Cappuccino, FlavourArt Espresso, Tiramisu, Hazelnut, and Anise were the first. I was surprised to find they were all plenty strong at 1% in VG.
Encouraged, I mixed other less-strong favorites (pg-based) at 1%. Eee-yech...I felt sorry for myself but vaped 'em anyway. A few days in I began noticing "notes" I couldn't before, my favorites tasted better than ever. Even flavors from my reject bin suddenly taste right. Nothing is perfume- or chemical-tasting, and none ever taste burnt. My coils are pristine with such low flavoring, so there's nothing to get in the way of the flavoring (less time spent cleaning, too).
So I mixed some of my favorite recipes in VG base at my usual flavoring percents. I used THAT as my flavoring to arrive at 1% flavoring versions. Bleh, blah.. but too bad, I told myself, get used to it. After 3-4 days they ALL began tasting BETTER than my originals did. Chocolates actually taste like chocolate, complex desserts have every flavor present now, it's delightful.
Better flavor, cleaner equipment, and I'm vaping a fraction of the flavor chemicals, this is GREAT! My vapor trail is now unscented - bonus for non-vapers around me.
My next goal is to replicate my favorite recipes and come up with new ones using only non-PG flavorings, as I collect some. Stay tuned, but that is going to take me a while.
