Evening all, just got home to find a gift from my better half, a kayfun, Japanese cotton and .32 wire to make some coils,
now I just need a little help, how do you figure out how many coils to resistance? I'm looking for about 1.6ohm
Don't give up on the 32 gage. Look at some twisted coil videos. Major flavor for me out of twisted coils. I can't help you on specifics ( I just play around till I'm happy ) but I have twisted 2 stands of 32 and then twisted two of those together.......have fun.....Enjoy!

I am going to pick up some 28 kanthal tomorrow, I did a 7wind build at 2mm with tight spacing and it was coming up as 1ohm, was very even heating but slow to heat, the wire I have seems comparable to kanthal D in the way it's working, will going to kanthal A 28 make much difference?

32g should heat up pretty quick, that is one of the main benefits of the thinner wire (maybe the only). What device are you using, and what watts/volts are the pushing to it. I found that 10 to 13 watts was good for my 1.3'ish builds, anything more and the Kayfun's have a hard time wicking fast enough. I don't really know the difference from A1 to D, I have always used A1.

You mean the rest of the world and the annoying metric system....jk....the US should have converted long ago.

28g has always been my go to wire for my Kayfuns. A 9 wrap 2mm ID micro always worked well for me. I don't know how familiar you are with coil building, but make sure you heat and pinch the coil once it is mounted to be sure it is glowing correctly. Pbusardo (youtube) has a good video for a standard build on the Kayfun. (link) The build starts a 19:30.
