How many drops?

I just started vaping and on my initial vape I used 4 drops and it seemed to create a decent amount of vapor but I kindof noticed it leaking out the sides in between where the cart connects with the atomizer. So I have 2 questions, how many drops should I be putting in the cart (510 PV) and also, is there a technique that is used to get the liquid into the cart so it doesn't leak out? Thanks so much!

Jus' started las' thursday m'self. But I read extensively through the 6-part guide in the library. I gave the included "marlboro" to my girlfriend and ordered menthol and empties. I've been unsure how much to fill also but I started out with 8-10 the first time and 5-6 on refills. Your problem is absorption. Add the drops slowly and allow them time to soak in. (Some use a syringe and inject the liquid but I'm not that impatient.) You should be full when the last added drop only soaks in partially. Sometimes I add a drop to the atty, sometimes I skip that. (I also have a 510, Joyce.) There're 2 narrow channels on the sides of the carts and I usually get a little liquid along those sides but that's the extent of the leakage I see.

The number of drops can depend on your drop size, the way to tell if the cart is full is the filler should
look wet, slushly and your good to go. If you replace the stock filler with aquarium blue foam filter
material, cut to fit snuggly, it holds more juice, leaks less, and leaks less.

Also try putting the plug-cap (sometimes called a ....-plug) on the atomizer end before refilling. This will prevent leakage. If you haven't discovered the spin technique (called Taryn spin), check it out on youtube. This will allow you to load the cart full in a minute or 2. 4 0r 5 drops is really just wetting the outside of the filler.

Hmmm Thanks for the info. Another question you might be able to help me with, how long until the liquid evaporates from the foam filter? Also, am I correct in assuming if I buy my own foam (like aquarium blue or poly) that I can clean my carts out and reuse them? Thanks for the help, appreciative as always!

First off, um were your carts empty? Or prefilled? If empty, you need to remove the batting and drop enough drops to fill the cart half way full. Then gently push the batting back in. (Using a tweezers helps to push it in, or pull it out.) Once batting is back in, let it soak the e juice in for a few, then drop a few drops on top of batting. It should look like a slushy, not a kid pool. I read that somewhere. And it is quite apt to this scenario. Practice is your best technique. It does make perfect. Good luck!

Since you have a 510, I recommend you try the precut pieces of blue foam first (precut for 510/901) - you can find them in this shop - I don't care that much for their own juices but the foam pieces are cheap and if you like coffee I heard the Kona coffee ejuices are good.

Then if you like blue foam and are ready to cut your own, you buy Marineland Rite-size U Foam Sleeve in the aquarium dept of Petsmart (that costs like $8).

Good advice, dormouse! I read that on a forum too. Once you buy the pre cut kind from whomever, you cut your own to fit just right. I did the exact same thing that dormouse suggested. Been happily vaping my blue foam modded 510 for 2 months.

Cutting your own allows you to make it a little bigger for thin juice, smaller for thick juice, and also use it
with an ego mega atty. It should be just big or small enough to wick quickly, without leaking.

Yes! the Blue Foam Mod works great with the 510! That's all I use when vaping with my 510. I saved all my pre-filled carts, removed the stock filler, cleaned them and now use the blue foam. There are some great videos about Blue Foam on Youtube. I cut mine the shape of a T and the top of the T acts as a plug to prevent leakage. I found that video on the Volcano Forum and I think it was done by EvilErnie.

Try dripping yet? Just pull the cart off and drip into the atty. Put cart on and vape. Lose the foam and all the cart mod crap. Works great IMHO.

As far as drops go.... 3 ... dripped into the atty. Graduate to a drip tip later if you want. No foam of whatever color, no tea bags, no straws, no fuss.

I prefer dripping but it's a little unrealistic when I'm mobile all day to repeatedly drip. I'll usually drip with a filled cart on instead of a drip tip. That way I avoid the dreaded dry vape you eventually get when dripping.
