Just out of curiosity, how many have never smoked but started vaping?

Reason I ask is because my wife is, and always has been, a non-smoker. Actually, I did a good job of hiding the fact that I smoked when we first started dating. Otherwise, she probably would've told me to hit the road.

We went to my local vape shop to get some e-liquid and, before I knew it, she was walking out of there with her own battery, mini protank, and e-liquid with 0% nicotine. While I'm happy that she is supportive of me for switching I can't help but feel a little bad that she has a vape setup now. I think the fact that I'm using vaping to quit a nasty happy has instilled a bad stigma in my head about any type of smoking/vaping.

In all reality, she'll probably get bored after a month and give the setup to me. But, in the mean time, should I have any concerns? I know I'm probably being overly protective (hey, give me a break, we just got married a little over a month ago :) ).

I smoke cigars once in a while but dont smoke cigs. I loved hookah but hated how you have yo set it up everytime amd it takes up too much space. I love how I can use my mod and just turn it off when im done. plus my wife loves the smell of juice rather than cigar smoke. I think what got me into mechs was the fact I love tinkering amd building things. basically this is just another hobby for me

I discourage it but yes there are people who begin vaping even though they never smoked. When I used to work in a vape shop they would come in and say they just want to try it and some would buy it with 0% nic juice.
I did have an interesting sale once to a non-smoker. About a year ago a lady about 5' 4" at 130lbs in what I would guess were her early 40's comes in and says I want a "mod" and a bottle of "high nicotine." I started showing her some devices / juice and could immediately tell she had never vaped. So I did the usual explaining of the devices, juice, atomizers etc. and tried leaning her towards a cheaper option to get started. She looks at me and no joking says "I want the strongest mod, the hardest hitting atomizer and the highest nicotine juice because I NEED this as an APPETITE SUPPRESSANT." I was floored by that answer and tried to sway her to pharmacy alternatives but she wasn't going to swayed. So after 3-4 minutes of explaining nicotine addiction I made the sale and showed her how everything works.
She walked out with a VAMO V2, vape only bcc and a 30ml bottle of 24mg eliquid. Unfortunately, I was the only one there at that time.

Should you be concerned? Maybe. There's no doubt that ecigs do not share the same dangers as analogs, but the real long term effects are still unknown. If they are truly inconsequential, then there's nothing to worry about. If vaping leads to bean sprouts coming out of your ears after 15 years of use, then it might be too late for her by the time long term negatives are discovered. It comes down to this: Is SHE, not you, willing to take the risk for the sake of getting into the hobby, tasting cool flavors, bonding with you, etc. IMHO, I doubt there will be any major long term effects discovered (with maybe the exception of certain flavorings being found out as unhealthy) based on the fact that similar systems like fog machines and inhalers have been used for decades with no one reporting long term health effects that I know of.

As for my smoking history, I was an on again, off again smoker. I am a student who lives a few hours from home, so whenever I visited, I'd buy a pack and smoke most of it on my way down and way back up from home. Other than that, I might smoke one pack one month, not touch any for 2 months, smoke a pack a week for the next month, and then go back to almost nothing. This randomness was stopped a bit this last summer, though. I got a summer job and my smoking increased a lot because of the number of smoke breaks we'd get. It was a job with a lot of "hurry up and wait" kind of stuff, so smoking was often all we had to do until our next task was ready to be started. My smoking never went below about a pack every week after that job. After a few months of that, I decided to take the plunge into vaping. I'll say this though, my interest in vaping would have been there whether or not I was regularly smoking cigarettes. Honestly, I look at vaping like more of a hobby for me, rather than a way to quit. The fact that I haven't had a single cigarette since I got my vape, even with a half smoked pack within arms reach in my drawer this entire time, is just an added perk.

There are some people that I have met that come into the vape shop that haven't smoked in while or haven't smoked at all in their lives. I'm not sure why you would want to start vaping but I guess to some people they think this is just a cool new fad. I know some hookah smokers and cigar smokers that have made the switch. If they want to spend money on vaping gear and vape then I say let them, they are helping companies grow and getting the word of vaping out to people who may not know about it who DO smoke and want another option to help them get off of cigarettes.

I seriously doubt anyone who has never smoked is going to inhale vape so I don't think its any different than sucking on a sugar-free lollipop. In fact, I'm thinking of getting a bag of those for when I can't vape.

Oh yeah, I highly doubt she is inhaling. She tried inhaling a couple times and it wasn't a pretty sight.

On one hand: I personally look at a non-smoker who never smoked, but who vapes, as someone who enjoys a nice cigar on occasion. I think most people can casually do something without it becoming something they feel they "need" to do (I know plenty of people who only drink or have a cigarette in social settings). I see nothing inherently wrong with it, especially at 0% nic, as someone else said.

On the other hand: I would never personally, actively try to get a non-smoker into vaping. Not saying that you did that, as it's clear you did not. Just pointing out my differing views on the topic, which may not make sense to some, haha.

I look at all of this e-cig/vape stuff purely as a means to get away from cigarettes, and then eventually, get away from nicotine and vaping altogether. Because that's exactly what it is, to me. So when I hear stories like this (and I've heard it more than once), I scratch my head a little bit, but I do understand.

I would say, for now, look at it like a hobby you both enjoy, and don't worry too much.

This is all just my opinion, and is only worth what you paid for it. :D

My brother and a friend of ours both started vaping and neither have ever smoked.

I quit smoking 14 years ago and will never pick up another cigarette but I love vaping. I picked it up because I work from home and I find myself snacking or eating just because of the hand-mouth thing.

Since I started vaping I've lost around 12 pounds. I don't eat when I'm not hungry anymore, and I have an easier time differentiating between actually being hungry and just craving something. I started at 0mg, but moved to 6mg (and will stay there). I find it helps with ADD and the appetite suppression. The woman who came in wanting 24mg is a bit crazy - going from 0 to 24 is a recipe for getting sick. 12 makes me dizzy, even!

Cigarettes are about much more than just nicotine. There's a lot of satisfaction that comes from all of the mechanical aspects of smoking - the hand to mouth, the inhale/exhale, and so on. Vaping adds flavor to the mix, making it even better. I don't see anything wrong with non-smokers vaping. :)

I think it's good she's supporting you, personally.

At zero nic, there's only really the unknown consequences of vaping flavorings and PG/VG - which I suppose compared to traffic fumes may end up being negligible. No-one knows, I guess.

Better than you smoking around her, for sure though.

I'd relax a bit though, and I'm assuming her vaping is helping you long term, so I'm seeing it as a win win thus far :)

Thanks for the reassurance everyone!

The good side of this is ordering new flavors is much easier now without needing to justify why I spent $100. For every two flavors I order, she usually orders one herself. Of course, the one she ended up buying at the store was one of the more expensive on their had

Actually, on second thought, this may not be too good for me.

never smoked, and picked up vaping initially cuz it looked cool, and continued caping as a hobby. I enjoy it, its 0 nic, and I can throw it away any time I feel like.

That being said, I'd always caution anyone trying vaping for the first time, ESPECIALLY non-smokers. One of the major reasons I dont get my dad into vaping (hes a ex smoker for 15 years this year) is because I'm afraid he'll get a relapse or worst, get frustrated with it and go back to the cigs. but, its a known fact that I'm paranoid =P
