I just got my Provari a few days ago and that thing sucks the juice like crazy. I'm gonna get a few tanks to use on it (mini subs from Mom and Pops Vapor shop) and I'm gonna punch my own cartos. My favorite e-juices are 100%PG and another is 50pg/50vg and the last fav is 100%VG. I'm gonna be using Boge 3.0 ohm cartos. So how many holes should I punch for these juices? I'm thinking one hole for the 100%PG and one for the 50/50 and two for the 100%VG. That sound right?

this is the golden question. so many people have different experiences because the thickness of juice varies between vendors. for myself i have 50/50 mixes that i use 2 holes for that also works well for a few 100% vg mixes that i have. 1 hole might be sufficient for 100% pg, but again it varies and will take some trial and error. i destroyed about 10 cartos in the learning process but i think im getting it down. they are cheap enough anyway.

It has been my experience that having not enough hole is bad news in the form of dry, burnt hits, but too much hole is not a problem at all, provided you are using a quality tank with a good seal. I once tested this theory with 8 large holes in a Boge carto in an M1A1 tank, which I vaped for 2 weeks with no leaks or gurgles. Of course, all I had to do was tighten that thumbscrew that the M1A1 has a little too tight to make an iffy seal, and it turned into a flooded mess.

So these days, even though 1 small hole is usually sufficient for most of my concoctions, I always put 2 largish holes in every carto no matter what juice I am using, and just make sure to properly assemble the tank.

One note - for tanks that don't have fill ports like the M1A1, too many holes can cause a lot of juice to be pushed into the carto during assembly of the tank, leaving the carto flooded after the initial assembly. I believe the mini-sub tank you are looking at has a fill port, so as long as it has a good seal and you use that port for refills, this shouldn't be a problem.

the last week I've been using the new xl mega boge 3ohm cartos (45mm) on my provari with 30/70% VG/PG juice and one hole punched with a saddle valve and it's been working perfectly in a dctank. I had been modding my dctanks for a fill hole with a screw and decided to try it without a fill hole. The grommet style tanks like the chibi and sub tank can't be filled like the hard cap tanks, you'll push too much air into the tank and the air pressure will cause it to leak. trying to fill a grommet style tank (without a fill hole) by sliding a syringe needle down between the grommet and tube is iffy... it's hard to fill it while letting the displaced air escape and (for me) about half the time I left too much air in it and it would flood and dump the juice. with these dctanks without fill holes, I've been filling by popping the carto down out of the tank by the batt end, just enough to fill it with a pipette. and then I push it back in. so far I've had no flooding, it has been wicking great with no gurgling or dry hits at all. (what happens tomorrow is anyone's guess but RIGHT NOW I'm happy)

After all the time and money I spent buying tubing and grommets, cutting the tubes and finding the right size o-rings... I've now quit messing with the grommet style tanks. And now after all the time and money I spent finding the right drill and tap combination and screws (I bet I've got 100 screws!) I've quit using fill holes.

So all in all, I've spent at least $50 on supplies to make stuff I no longer use  But I guess I had fun doing it and I learned a lot about tanks and how they work.
