If you are talking a single coil that would be a 5/4 wrap.

If you have an android device download "Vaper's Toolbox" from Google Play (it's free). It's an awesome app that can tell you how many wraps to get certain ohms. Plus it was made by a member here, ScottP who really knows his stuff. I use it all the time and find it very accurate.

I'm new to the forum so forgive me if my question has already been addressed, but how many wraps of 24 gauge kanthol do I need for a .5 coil? I'm using a 1/8 th drill bit for wrapping.
What mod are you using?
What batteries (brand, mah, amp rating) are you using?
Do you have an ohm meter?

Hello and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here!:)

First, a few questions for you.

1. Have you read up on battery safety, ohms law, amp limitations?
2. What type of battery are you using (make/mAh/amp limititation)?
3. Do you have an ohm reader or a DMM?

Post Note: Bad -- we must be on the same wavelength!:D

Darth, I assumed that you are using a mod and battery that can handle a .5 Ohm build and have a device that can check the resistance. That said, Baditude is the man here when it comes to mod and battery knowledge and safe vaping. I would definitely (and gladly) accept any advice from him. I, like Badatude, want you to to have a safe but very enjoyable vape!

If there is anything that I have learned about novice vapers, it is to not to assume anything. My answer to a question is often preceded with my own questions first. Susan~S appears to have learned this, too. ;)

Stay tuned for a previously recorded message:
If you dont know how to figure this out on your own you probabl should not be atemptin to build it. (in many peoples opinion)

You are probably right. Let's play nice though. Let's find out more information about the chap before we judge him.

5 wraps will do it..... what are you putting it in?

How can you answer his question with this? Let's say he's got the diameter of his mandrel off by just a bit or somehow ends up with a .4 ohm coil on a mech with a 10 amp battery....he'll be over his battery's limit from just being .1 ohm off.

Only a fool would blindly build a coil based on an answer given without testing first!

The suggestions of "Steam engine" and "Vapors toolbox" are great places to start. As Baditude asked what are you using? To be completely safe and offer sound advise we and you need to know the limitations of your gear.

I have personally found that the difference of coming 3/4 vs 1/2 way around my drill bit makes a HUGE difference in the resistance of the coil. Running sum-Ohm you do not have much wiggle room.

Please build responsibly.

I'm having more trouble navigating the forum with my phone than anything else. Thanks for the advice so far everyone. I have indeed recently delved into the world of rebuildable. I have an Innokin vf dripper with 3 spare decks and a kayfun style eleaf lemo.I've been using my Smoktech Magneto with a Sony 18650 battery. I've been wrapping 8 to 10 turns, but haven't found the .50 sweet spot on my ohm meter yet. I'll check out the advice given so far and see how it goes. Cheers!
