So I want to rebuild the coils in my EVOD and pro tanks but not go so low that it can't power the atomizer enough. I did a micro coil with 30 Gauge kanthol 10 wraps. It's kind of slow to make vapor but works on 4.8 volts. I guess I want to know how to determine what ohm a coil needs to be on 4.8 volts. Also, is there a table somewhere that says how many wraps and what gauge kanthol make a certain ohm coil? Ex: 30 gauge kanthol @ 10 wraps = 2.0 ohm coil.

Hey Wes

You need to get something that will check ohms and for shorts (multimeter or an ohms box available at some online ecig dealers or best yet, an MVP2)

I use 8 wraps of A1 30 on a 3/48 machine screw, remove it from screw, torch the cr@p our of it (refillable butane torch) and while it is glowing red, squeeze it with some needle nose pliers, repeat until all of the coils are touching (but not overlapping), it is still large enough to get wicking material through (cotton or doubled 2 mil silica) put however much flavor wick you need to avoid flooding and normally comes out at 1.9 ohms and I set my twist between 3.8 and 4v (yes, 3.9 but there is no mark for it and I have confused some people) to get 7.6 watts (the sweet spot for me and my eliquid - your results may vary - Dakota Jim and all affiliates??? of Dakota Jim will not be responsible for any results you may or may not get - wait, dang it, I went into my CYA disclaimer mode again, sorry)

Oh, and

Thanks. I'll give that a try. So if I do more than 8 wraps does the ohm go up or down. 8 wraps = 1.9 10=2.0? Obviously I need an ohm meter!
More wire=more resistance
The #s you cite here are almost EXACTLY what I get with 30ga A1 kanthal on a 1/16" arbor, BTW...
A GOOD quality DIGITAL multimeter is a coil-builder's BEST friend!!:D
Good Luck!

Just an FYI, If you have an android device there is an app called "Vapor's Toolbox" on the google play store. It is an awesome easy to use app! You just plug in what you are using for wire, the diameter you are using, your target Ohms and a few other details and it will tell you how many wraps to use!

I used it to make a microcoil on my mini RDA, I wanted a 2.0 Ohm coil and (probably beginners luck) that's exactly what I got!

Edit - I should add that the app was made by a member here ScottP and it's free!
