You are vaping 3.6 to 6 ml a day which equals to 64.8 to 108 mg of nicotine a day. Depending what brand of cigarette you smoked before, each cigarette has about 1 to 2 mg of nicotine depending on your smoking habits. How many cigarette a day did you smoke before vaping?

If you smoked a 25 pack a day, then you were getting between 25 to 50 mg of nicotine a day. If you were a 2 pack a day smoker then you are still in an acceptable range but if you use to smoke only 10-15 cig a day... well you do the math.

Snooze, that's 1 - 2mg absorbed when smoking, and un-smoked cigarette is reported to have ~20mg nicotine. That is why eating a cigarette can cause nicotine poisoning, but smoking one doesn't.

As far as what is safe to vape...you can tell pretty easily if you are getting too much nicotine. Reports have shown that e-cigarettes are not the best nicotine delivery systems. Meaning not all of the nicotine vaped is absorbed. The study may have been flawed though as people vape differently than they smoked.

I vape 1.5-2ml a day (dripping) of 18mg liquid and I smoked about a little less than a PAD. I don't think I am getting twice the nicotine I did when smoking. I will be getting my eGo-T tanks in a day or two, so we shall see how much I vape then. I have ordered some 12mg juice just in case it ramps up my mls per day.

Vaping is much less efficient in delivering nicotine to your system than smoking is. I don't believe you can make those type of comparisons. There are veteran users who vaped only 36mg liquid and with no reported problems. I would say don't worry about it and just let your own body tell you what is too much or too little.

Thanks for clarifying this up. I guess we learn something new everyday, that's why I'm addicted to this forum. So much information...

^This. There really isn't a direct correlation between how much or which type of cigarettes a person smoked and which nic level they should vape. I was a 1+ PAD Ultra Light smoker and I tried starting out of 18mg. Not enough. I had cravings like none other so I bumped to 24mg and stayed there for over a month before being able to move back down to 18mg. I have a friend who only smoked socially and she needs 24mg to keep her off the cigarettes.

Being a new vaper, I would say that for right now you should just keep vaping and not worry too much about how much you consume. Vaping "too much" will simply result in a headache, the spins, nausea, ect. The symptoms only last a few minutes so its not really a big deal.

staying off cigarettes is the big deal :)

Congrats on your new lifestyle!

Nobody can say for sure yet that they are completely "safe"
I have been vaping 24-36mg heavily for over a year and never felt better.
I never intended to quit smoking. When I tried vaping I just liked it better on so many fronts.
Now I cannot stand cigarettes or even stand to be around them.
From what I can tell from my own experiences, It must certainly be much "less dangerous" than smoking.
Nicotine really isn't the problem, but instead it is the first and second hand smoke from cigarettes.

Don't forget.. Nicotine is not the killer problem with cigarettes. The problem is the other 4,000+ poisons that smoking introduces to your body that you are eliminating via vaping. I used to smoke 2 PAD but when I tried patches, the high nicotine patches were way too strong for me. So I had to move to medium nicotine patches. Now I vape 5 to 6 ml of 18mg nicotine liquids and feel great. Your body will tell you what's too much or what isn't.

When I first started vaping I knew I was vaping way more often than I was smoking. I enjoyed it, it was new and I was trying to figure it all out. I also think your aware of everytime you vape because it's not just automatic like smoking was. So it just felt like I was chain vaping when I first started. It slowed down as I got use to to things. Well it slows down until I get a new juice order in and have to try everything. :vapor:

The research I've read suggests that nicotine isn't harmful (meaning toxic) at smoking/vaping doses, but it is definitely a vasoconstrictor, which can cause some people's blood pressure to rise. I'm one of them.

When I began vaping (Oct 2010), I was already down to eight cigs a day, a far cry from the 2 1/2 packs a day I smoked for 35 years before that as a hardcore addict. Since my first toke on a vaporizer, however, I haven't had (or wanted) an analog. I LOVE vaping and don't miss smoking at all. That's the good news.

The bad news is that after a couple months of vaping 24-30mg liquids, my blood pressure had risen precipitously, from dead solid perfect (115/65) in September to stage 1 hypertension (155/90) in December. Nothing else changed in my life to cause this recent BP elevation, so it's pretty clear that my body couldn't handle the increased nicotine.

I have since started on blood pressure medication and reduced the nicotine content of all my juices to 18mg, sacrificing throat hit for better health. I'm not thrilled to have to give up that great reckless throat hit, but I'm 61, diabetic, and don't want to risk a heart attack. Happily, my blood pressure is coming back down toward normal. I hope to gradually wean myself off nicotine and get off the BP meds as quickly as possible.

This is not to suggest that others need worry. I've searched the various vaping forums and haven't found any other similar reports, so mine may be an isolated case.

I agree with the other posters that there's no "formula" for harmlessness here. Listen to your own body and act accordingly.

Definitely this. Listen to your own body and you'll know. I've posted before on my meetings with my physician and how nicotine can affect my health. I'm 37 and as a smoker I'd been having shortness of breath and it turns out it was because of an elevated resting heart rate. My pulse was over 130 almost all of the time. I quit caffeine, shortness of breath was gone but my pulse was still high. I started vaping at 18mg and it's back to normal on most occasions and feel so much more energetic.

However, I need that TH so I go up to 24mg sometimes and after 10 or 15 drags my hands start shaking and I have shortness of breath again. Too much. I have extremely high cholesterol and, as I've been informed, nicotine increases cholesterol, increases your heart rate and can certainly clog up your arteries long term. I'm so glad to be rid of the chemicals that an analog has, but the dangers of nicotine should not be discounted - especially for someone with a pre-existing condition such as I. I just gotta take it a little easier than most.
