ohm thingies need maintenance depending on your vaping habits, amount you vape, voltage/wattage vaped at, type of juice, etc. When vape production and taste deteriates, it's time to play with yur thingy. Some thingies can be cleaned, re-wicked, dry burned, to extend your thingy life. After time, all thingies must be replaced or rebuilt. There are many thingy life cycles. This is one of the things you'll intuitively come to understand as you become more familiar with your thingies, and what pleases your particular thingy.

I love that you call it "the ohm thing" because that's really what it is. Maybe we need a change in terminology ie. atomizer head = ohm thing. I change my ohm things about once a week or when it starts producing less vapor, or starts tasting a little off or burnt. LOL!!!

I agree. :p

I vape usually clean and clear juices, so I just soak my thingies in PGA every couple of days (or every 3-4 tankfuls) and they are good to go again. A good coil will last for weeks with a minimum of care. Vaping a bit of unflavored now and then is also good for cleaning the coils--PG is an excellent solvent.

LOL.

Regarding Katya's very relevant questions, this may help:

Thanks for all the advice, it is a Kanger pro tank, the one that provape sells. I got my vape happening on Thursday and vaped heavily until today (Monday) with provape E juice on the 1.8 ohm thingamabob at 3.4v. Went through about 1 and a bit full tanks of juice. Today it was extremely harsh and hot, flavourless, and emitting very little vapour. Also the part of the tank where the ohm thing sits was getting rather warm. I did the full maintenance workout (clean electricity conducting thing in top of provari) and also installed a new ohm thing and its as good as new. The wick on the old one was all brown and nasty looking.

A little disappointed that they need to be changed so frequently. I guess I should just buy like 30 of them at once. Is there anything you can do to prolong their life? Don't want to get into rebuilding them just yet. I just ordered heaps of juice from heathers heavenly vapes so hopefully they will be a bit easier on the coils. I suppose the amount of stuffing around to rebuild the wick it would probably be better to just replace the whole ohm thing for $1.

Not too concerned on cost as I am from Australia where cigarette prices are the highest in the world ($17 US dollars for 25) and I was going through a pack every 2 days so either way im ahead financially and health wise.

Thanks.

Hello and welcome

The kind of juice you are vaping can have a big impact on how long the heads (thingys) last. Juices with a high vg ratio and dark juices can make them gunk up faster. And even with clear juice, when the head has been used for awhile it will look dark and yucky at the bottom. With all of the juice delivery devices (the thingys that hold the juice and screw on top of the battery) I buy cheap, buy in bulk and expect a high failure rate. If they last for awhile, I'm filled with glee; if they don't last very long, it was expected. These doodads are mass-produced products and I think we need to be realistic about the expectations we have of them.

I vape clear or almost clear juices, generally with 70% pg. Accordingly, I don't go through that many thingys, even so it's a bit surprising since I'm not very nice to them. I often use Protanks (I vape unflavored in them, so there's no issue with muted taste). I put in a head and just keep refilling the tank until the draw gets tight or it doesn't taste quite right (unflavored actually does have a flavor ;)), then I replace the head. I put the old one in a jar. I have about 11 in the jar. I imagine I will do something with them someday, perhaps clean them, more likely throw them away. I do rotate devices often, but I think my clear, thin juice is probably the reason I've gone through 11 heads in 8 months.
