my local vape shop tells me that the coils on my kanger mt3 should be replaced every 10 to 14 days when they start developing a burnt taste.however here and on you tube I see that they can just be cleaned instead. is my local vape shop just trying to sell me coils more often than I need them? how can I tell when a coil needs to be replaced instead of just cleaned? after smoking cigarettes and pipes for 44 years I started vaping 6 weeks ago and have had no desire to smoke my pipe in that time. this is the first effective tobacco replacement that I have found.my sinuses are clear and my lungs are clearing up I can breath easier and don't get winded as quickly. I am very happy about this. :)

Hi, Maurice, and welcome to ECF!

Coil life will vary depending on several things. A particular flavor may "gunk" faster than another. (Typically, clear juices gunk slower than dark ones.) When you find yourself looking for more vapor or flavor, it's time to do something. Some of my dark flavors I'll clean and dry burn after 2 or 3 tanks full, some of my clear ones 4 - 6. How that translates to days, well, no real good equivalence since we all vape differently. (And since I usually have a half dozen or so devices ready and change flavors throughout the day... :vapor: )

Changing to a new coil is quick and easy. And while, if sourced online, aren't real spendy, will add up over time.

Performing a cleaning and a dry burn isn't quite a quick, but pretty easy. And will restore the old coil to near new performance. And can be done numerous times before the coil itself fails. Even then, if you wish, they can be recoiled and completely rebuilt.

Just do a search for "dry burn kanger coil" or similar. The T3S (and MT3S) both use the same single coil head. If you have the MT3D it uses a dual coil and the cleaning / dry burn may be a little different.

Great that you're doing well! Just too darn bad it wasn't around 44+ years ago when I started smoking!

I have single coil tanks as well as a drip atomizer I saw a video on you tube about rebuilding these coils and it looks very simple. I agree with you I wish these were around when I started smoking but after only 6 weeks I am seeing dramatic improvement. I am very active and enjoy hiking and cycling and notice that I do not get out of breath on hills as quickly and do not cough when I wake up in the morning so I can see my health improving already I have found inexpensive replacement coils online $6.24 Coil Heads for GS-H5 / GS-H2 Clearomizer (10-Pack) 10-pack - 2.4ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping. the GS-H2 and the kanger mt3 uses the same coil but I plan to start winding coils for my drip atomizer soon and may just make replacement coils for these tanks as well.it does feel great to be smoke free and there are so many great flavors to explore I carry several tanks with me too so that I can change flavors during the day but the more I learn here and on you tube the less I trust my local vape shop

Great...keep at it. Change the coil when the taste is off and take the old and clean it and set it aside to dry out. You can cycle through them and decide to toss or re-use based on how bad they were. Personally, when I used those coils I just tossed them as a 5 pack was cheap enough...especially compared to a pack of smokes.

My youngest son was asking these same questions earlier. All though I think he is being overly picky because he is transitioning from reg. cigarettes he has been trying to find his right set up and I have several different types of atomizer that are single or double coil and I have not tried the drip tanks but want too but, Is it cheaper for this kind of set up, is it more up keep? mine i just unscrew them to change the coil is a clearamizer rebuild able i have 2 that came with my innokin itaste mvp my son also said that it takes a special battery that it won't fit his innokin but today he checked his type itaste and it came back as a "knockoff" is that normal?

In the long run a:
RDA: Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer
RTA: Rebuildable Tank Atomizer

is cheaper...folks generally start with cartridges then decide that they want a "fresh" build more often. Ok, that is a good time to move to an R*A approach, if you have someone that can give you a lesson and be a coach. If you want to stick with the cartridge approach, right now the Kangar subtank mini with OCC coils is really amazing and appreciated by folks that have been in the RDA/RTA world for some time.

Personally, once I learned to build my own atomizers, I never looked back as it became a way to get what I wanted out of a device and save funds and not be tied to a given manufacture. Give me a roll of wire and a few cotton balls and I am good for a month.
