Is this an EVOD or an MT3 and which coils does it take?

Hey, a buddy of mine is getting a starter kit that has some tanks with it that I can't identify and the vendor has not been helpful (I was told to "search on ebay" for them. NOT helpful.)

It is labeled as an MT3 tank (a clone of some kind obviously) in the product description but as far as I know the MT3 (not the MT3S) had the coil and the base as an entire replaceable piece. This one does have a removable coil, but it has a very short post compared to the kanger coils I've looked at - it sort of looks like an old EVOD kanger single. I'm wanting to get him some coils to tide him over until he gets a better clearo, but I just can't figure out WHICH coils this thing takes. Any ideas?

Sure does look like an Evod or MT3S, hard to tell the actual size.

But the height of the chimney shouldn't be a problem, as it just goes up into the air tube of the clearo anyway. I'd say the Kanger style single bottom coils should work fine - unless it needs the narrower diameter of the T3S coils. If the height is a problem, just swap out the chimney :)

That's an evod. The MT3 and MTS3 are both longer. You can tell by how short the tank is compared to the coil in the picture. Same thing with just the MT3. They hold twice as much liquid so would be quite a bit longer. IMAG1667.jpg

Hey you can see my old green one in the picture there. You can see it's quite a bit longer than a regular evod. Thats a 1600 Vision spinner 2 it's sitting on there too. I'm trying to duplicate the shot so you can get some scale... but I think my phone just crapped out totally, so unfortunately i've got bigger problems right now lol.

Good luck.

I vote EVOD, but pictures can be deceiving and the seller isn't helping my calling it an MT3.

The problem is the MT3s & T3s use a different coil than a PT/EVOD. The fitting on the base of an MT3s is smaller, and the diameter of the metal washer on the coil (right below the wicks) is correspondingly smaller. If it is a MT3s base and you put a PT/EVOD coil in it, that metal washer rides on top of the fitting it's supposed to go down into. Then you get leaking and problems making electrical contact with the battery because the coil can't seat properly.

You may not be able to figure this one out until he gets the alleged "MT3" and see what it actually is.

Thanks guys. Yeah, it's still a mystery until I have it in hand. He'll be bringing it by on Wednesday. Even with the pics he sent me of it, I can't tell for certain. I have a protank coil and a t3s coil on hand so at least then I'll be able to switch them in and see what fits and what doesn't, but I had hoped to have some kind of idea before so I could ship a pack in before he got here.

I think it looks like an EVOD too. But the seller says MT3. Mind-numbingly frustrating :)

Just to check what you're saying about compatibility -

T3s (and MT3s) Kanger coils will also fit PT, PT2, Mini PT2, and EVOD
PT Kanger (single)coils will NOT fit T3s and MT3s

Is that right?

Sorry, I've not used any of the Kanger coils other than the T2's, which are very different. I have a mini protank 2 and a T3s, which again I've not used - I tried the T3s coil in the mini pt2 and it didn't seem to thread in the same as the PT coil, was a little janky feeling going in. I'm not going to juice it up or anything, just noting the difference in feel of the threading.

Will have this figured out soon, I'll have them in hand tomorrow night and I'll just test how these fit. I don't trust those tanks though so maybe I should just give him the mini PT2, lol.

Right, the T3S coil should work in the PT, PT1, PT2, their minis, Evod, and many others. The PT coils will NOT fit in the T3S. AFAIK, neither will work in the PT3.

And right again, the T2 is a whole different animal :)

And all this is for the single bottom coil devices. I've not tried the dual bottom coils, since I decided to "standardize" my clearos to just one or two coils that I rebuild.

Snug up a T3S head in your mini PT2 and fill with water. Set it in a repurposed ashtray (gotta find something to use them for!) and let it sit awhile. If it doesn't leak water, it will be fine with juice, which is thicker. then just dump, let dry and you're good to go.

As a bit of a Kanger connoisseur, I'd like to throw my opinion in the ring. That looks like an original evod clearo, probably a clone. The coils look like the original single coil evod coils, which had a shorter stem. The T3 and MT3 used a coil that was permanently attached to the base of the clearo, and the whole unit had to be replaced. The later T3s and MT3s used a base with a seperate coil, the one that we all know and love...or hate, as the case may be ( I love 'em ). The T3 and MT3 could both be upgraded to the 's' version by simply replacing the base, and using the common coils. Those T3s bases will also fit evods, in my experience. I prefer them for the knurled surface, which is easier to grip.

The later dual coil units...Evod 2, Evod glass, T3d, MT3d, protank3, etc. use a different, dual coil head, that is slightly taller than the original coils. It will not fit into original evods and T3s'. Likewise, the original coils will not seal properly (or, at all) in the dual coil clearos.

Back to your question...The original evod coils do have a wider flange at the bottom of the coil, and will not work in the T3s/MT3s base, but the T3s coils will work just fine in the evod (usually)...the length of the stem doesn't matter, and in fact, i believe the short, original evod coils have been discontinued. If you want to get him some coils to fit that clearo, I'd suggest the standard T3s coils.

Vape on,

Grimstar
