How old is your VAMO ??

I hope this one will last a while and wish boards and tubes/buttons were available but i guess at the price point for these it's not a big deal to just buy another if needed. If I had parts for it I may get more creative lol.

I have emailed two suppliers to see if they plan to carry the circuit boards, but they are only available in minimum lots of 50 at $15.00 each. Suppliers can get the whole Vamo at $20.00 each in lots of 15, so It won't pay them to carry just a board. They would have to charge $20 or $25 per circuit board to make any kind of profit at all. The only way we might be able to get some spare boards would be through a co-op buy @ $15.00 each plus shipping.

Also Ive had the chrome Vamo for three weeks, and use it about 50% of the time. Been dropped multible times and still not a scratch. Runs anything I screw on it. DID atty at the moment.

Question: does anyone else's Vamo have any manufacturer or vendors markings on it? Mine has a large V etched into the bottom cap. I bought it from a local B&M and tit was advertised it as a Vision Vamo.

Seems to be different manufacturers. The first Vamos had no markings - my chrome V2 is like that. Then a run came out with the European CE stamp stuff - my second one is like that. Then The "Vision" came out. They are all the same circuit board and design though, and from what I've seen the same casing as well.

i got mine from health cabin back when it was the EGOAPV and they only had 175 in stock and noone knew about it yet it was like middle of sept. . still works fine, the chrome finish mmm not so much

Mine, a chrome v2, is about two months old now; its chrome finish (normal chrome, not gunmetal) is already wearing off in a few parts, but it doesn't miss a beat

Got it as a backup PV, now I'd gladly buy another Vamo as the backup of the backup

Mine was born into my hands on 2/9/13 and I'm sure it'll be my main APV for some time to come. LOVE this thing!

ive had my vamo for several weeks. cant remember when i got it. its the chrome v2 model. no wear on the finish. its my "backup" device, whatever that means. and i say that because i use all my PVs pretty equally. i just switch up PVs throughout the day based on which juice is on top.
i only use it in 18350 mode. i have zero use for the larger battery. it makes it unnecessarily large fo rmy liking. my stance on the matter is why would i want 2 batteries (or 1 large battery) in there simultaneously when i can easily just carry the other battery in my pocket and swap it out when need be? its not like im pressed *that* much for time where i dont have time to go "screw, screw, screw, exchange batt, screw, screw, screw". i spend more time changing the top than i do changing batts.

I have a pre version 1. Does not remember settings has the small spring and tube is too small for the 18650 ...2250 amp battery. Has never given me any problems used daily

9wks. First 3 wks I knocked the same one off the table 8-10 times. haven't done it now in 6 wks. I have 5 of them. I have 2 @ a time going rotating all 5. The build quality defies the low cost. I am currently stacking the kit 18350's with great success. My son is making me a mech mod with parts from Radio Shack & a cool flashlight as a host. Its gonna be trick! He works for HiLo repair with access to a machine shop. As an aside,since he is well versed in electrical theory I will get his opinion on the ProV/Vamo PWM debate (if you saw it). I won't tell him what it is about so as not to bias his learned opinion. Vamo on!

I looked at the Post on the ProV/Vamo debate and I chalk it up to what I call the Audiophile Syndrome. There are people who insist that they can tell the subtle differences (maybe some can, but I never could) between tube style amps versus solid state amps (transistors) so they will spend large amounts of money to buy the most expensive gear in the search for perfection, and put down anyone doesn't agree with them. I have seen the same thing in tools, tractors, welders, and firearms. If its not a certain brand or type, or not made in a certain country, then its junk and your are the village idiot for using it. Granted, the more expensive items tend to be of better quality, but I always ask "DO I really need that ?" If what I have works without trouble, then I am happy with it.

I didn't want to add fuel to the fire, so I just added the comment about them sounding like the old Miller Lite commercial "Taste's great....Less filling" I have givin' up on arguing with fanatic types, doesn't do any good and gets everyone riled up.

I don't know the rules about posting links and such so I won't post it but I will say that kidney puncher has the control boards for preorder. Found it yesterday but seeing as how the price difference of a board shipped and the whole unit is less than $8 if you order from vaporbreak I'd just order another.

I got mine December 11th, 2012. So it's about 3 months old. It's a gunmetal V2, I use it mainly in 18350 mode, and despite having better quality devices I actually use my Vamo most of the time because of it's size, and quick/simple menu system, so it's got a ton of use on it. I use it, both at home, and I take it wiht me when I'm out and about quite often.

I have dropped it 3 times on concrete. One time it fell out of my hoodie pocket while I was getting out of a car, so a fall of about 3 feet or so. The second time I had placed it on top of a car, and it fell from about 5 feet. The last time was about a 3 foot fall again, out of my pocket.

I've dropped it on carpet and hardwood floors at my house more times than I can remember. I've knocked it over on my coffee table and had it fly onto the ground.

The device still functions perfectly. The 510 connection is still straight and in good condition, not worn or stripped. The screen has one gouge/scratch mark in it from when it fell from the top of the car. The bottom cap and top cap have a bunch of tiny gouge marks from falling and bouncing around on concrete. The gunmetal finish is wearing off with tiny scratch marks ALL over the bottom two sections of the device.

For some reason the main body portion which houses the board barely has any wear at all to the finish, it looks nearly brand new. The the two battery tube sections (the 18650 extension, and the same sized section that's above it) are the only ones that have the finish wearing off. I'm wondering if the base material is different, or if the finishing process was different between the two.

Still very happy with my Vamo and would buy another one if this one breaks. I'd probably go with stainless over gunmetal though.

It seems to be lasting better than my Zmax. The button on the Zmax cuts out every now and again, and the 510 threading isn't faring too well, as some heads are wobbly unless torqued down quite a bit. Not major issues, but my Vamo probably has 4 times the use on it as my Zmax and doesn't have any of these issues.

The Gunmetal and the Chrome finish seems to be a horrible weak spot though. I've got an old Smoktech Bolt in Chrome, and even after all the abuse it suffered the Chrome is 100% still intact. It's scratched up, but still intact. Think of a nice Chrome plated ratchet or wrench, they get scratched up but the Chrome plating (or Nickle, whatever) doesn't wear off like it's paint, as it seems to do on the Vamo.

I'm really starting to wonder if it's just that they prepared the surface of the metal badly before plating, or had a bad batch of plating chemicals. Because other devices just as cheap as the Vamo hold up a lot better as far as the Chrome finish is concerned.
