In the beginning it took forever to get started and it was tough because you needed juice as you were mixing it. That meant steep time was a real bear to wait for. Once you've got a supply of good juice and some recipes down pat, I spend maybe an hour per month mixing my staple juices and then "play" for maybe another hour or two with my own mixes, many of which end up down the drain! lol

All in all it's one of the best things I ever did. It isn't rocket science, just go for it. Don't over buy start up supplies you think you'll need or flavors you think you might like and it's pretty cheap even to get started. it is just as slippery a slope as the rest of the hobby though.

A single bottle of juice takes less than 5 minutes to make. I make my juice about once every 2 weeks and it takes about 2 hours to mix up 10 15 or so different flavors in batches between 20 ml and 100 ml. That includes getting everything out and cleaning it and putting it away when I'm done. I'm usually tweaking a mix or two, so around a half hour of that is spent looking over my notes.

Hi Flawedatdesign The amount of time of doing the mix is minimal though I spend alot of time reading flavour/recipe reviews. It's become my new hobby. I just love it when other vapers try my juice and go "oh wow" and "you made this yourself". Take lots of notes besides having a reference there's no way we'll remember our thoughts and %'s or at least this old brain won't  ha! ha! and writting down our taste impressions helps me focus on what I'm really tasting, it kinda trains the palate. Have fun, its a great way to try lots of different flavours, and read lots in the DIY section here. Enjoy:)

Oh, if we are going to count research time, then OP, it's an endless project! lol

It can be pretty time consuming to learn what you like and dislike without even getting in to the different aspects of mixing and methods. Starting out you will likely end up mixing quite a bit to find your preferred taste, including doing research to find flavor recipes and other things you can get quite caught up in everything initially. Personally I would allot around 1hr per juice recipe you intend to produce when starting out, this time will drastically decrease as you do it more and more.

Now having said that, I have moved far past the initial stages and I have four main flavors that I have been using for around a year now. Throughout that first year I learned a lot of tips to save time and one of the biggest tips I could ever pass on to an aspiring DIY'er is to measure EVERYTHING by weight so invest in a quality scale which can handle at least 300g and reads to the hundreds place(that's two digits beyond the decimal, ex 0.01). Really I cannot stress enough how much of a HUGE time saver mixing by weight is as all I need to do is put my large batch bottle on the scale and simply hit "tare" between every ingredient I add. No time spent cleaning syringes or pipettes, nothing gets dirty at all since I am able to pour straight from my flavoring bottles. There are numerous online Juice recipe calculators which will tell you the specific weight of the ingredients you wish to add.

Now that I have my recipes saved and am accustomed to mixing by weight I can mix a full 250ml batch in under five minutes from start to finish, so once you're a little seasoned in the methods of DIY you will need less and less time.

How much time does it take you to leave your home, drive or walk to the vape shop, debate over a flavor and then leave to drive back home? I'm fairly sure for myself that DIY has saved me a ton of time in travel alone.
