I've been trying to build one of these and i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong. The wicking is really bad, I have to suck it just to get it to wick and then i get a lot of spit back too. How should I build one these. I'm mainly concerned about the wicks since the coil is pre-built...

Do you think ; i'm using too much cotton? too little cotton?

What is the right amount of cotton to put in this thing? Could it be the juice I'm using that is contributing to my wicking problems its 80/20 VG PG

Thanks for the help

Hi yppan.

The First thing I would ask is what Version of the Kanger rba are you using?

The one with the Holes in the Barrel (Newer version on the Left in the picture)? Or the one with the Slots in the Deck (Older version on the Right)?

Kanger-SUBOX-New-RBA-vs-Old-RBA.jpg.a068ae38dc16dd458049a15b85710f73.jpg

Also, what kind of Cotton are you using? Pad Type Cotton? Or Bulk Cotton?

---

The a High VG e-Liquid could Most Definitely be contributing to Problems. Because so High VG e-Liquids are Very Thick. And a Thick e-Liquid does wick as well as a Thinner e-Liquid.

Luckily there is a Very Easy Solution for a Thick High VG e-Liquid. And that is to put a couple of Drops of Bottled or Distilled Water into a 30ml Bottle and give it a Good 60 Second Shake.

I got the RBA mini plus... the new one that come with the toptank

I followed the way he built it in the video exactly (the first one)

and its still not vaping very well at 50Watts

If I hold the button down for longer than 1 second it starts to taste burnt

Is this the normal way that people vape these things at higher wattage? Very short firing time?

The 1st Video is using a Original Style RBA. And that Wicking Technique works well. Especially if the e-Liquid inlets on the Deck are Filed to make them Slightly Larger.

For the RBA Mini Plus, like what you have, I think this tends to Work Better.

My way of perfect wicking of the Subtank. Trust me, it works every time.

---

What type of Build are you using for 50 Watts? And can you Dial back the Wattage? Or are you using a Mech Mod to drive your TopTank?

50 Watts is, IMO, getting to the Limit of what either RBA Section can Handle with about Any type of Build.

If you are going to run such High Wattage for your TopTank, I would trying putting a couple of Drops of Water into 10ml of that High VG e-Liquid you have. And see if Thinning the e-Liquid Helps.

I would also suggest Running the Biggest Diameter Coil that you can get onto the RBA Deck.

Happy New Years

I have to agree with zoiDan.... The mini is a great subtank (I have the RBA v1, btw) and it does a great job. However, it shines between 20-35 watts. That is with a 2.5mm kanthal 28g coil. Anything over and it gets to the burning cotton taste pretty fast.

You can try a larger coil but that tends cut down on airflow. You can also try to run a fine needle through the cotton after pulling through coil. It would help in wicking.

I got it on a kbox. I realized trying to vape this thing at higher wattage is a waste of time. Guess I will need a different RDA dripper for that. Do you guys have any suggestion for an RDA that might pair well with the kbox mini? I want something I can vape at 50-75Watts and drip on easily

Before you give up on it Completely, try thinning a Small amount of e-Liquid with some Water. It might not Work. But it is a Cheap and Easy thing you can Try.

I'm Not a good person to Ask about RDA's. Because I like Single Coil Bottom Feeding RDA's geared toward Flavor.

Yeah I kind of want to try a TFV8 Baby Beast instead, but this tank has put me off of the idea of all subohm tanks.

Lots of leaking, wasted eliquid, messes, sore throats and dry hits.

I now have it running at a whimpy 22 watts... Guess thats what i'm stuck with for now. Or maybe 22 Watts is alot more power than I think it is? I've never had VW mod before So I just think of it as being weak, is 22 watts alot?

I run my SubTank/TopTanks at 15 ~ 17.5 Watts.

22 Watts would be "Hot" for Me. LOL.

But then Again, I build them to be Run at Lower Watts. Using Thinner Wire Gauges and Alloys like NiChrome 80 and 316 SS.

I run a 5 wrap, 2.5mm, 26/32 kanthal clapton, that comes out to .7 ohm. Between 23 and 25 watts gets a warm, flavorful vape. I've tried a variety or builds and find lower ohm (.3 -.5) builds get to hot and the wicking can't keep up.

I've got the subtank mini RBA v2, with the large holes at the bottom. If I had the newer RBA, I would probably modify it and drill out larger wicking holes.

If it vapes well at 20-25 watts then you will have to find a way to increase juice feed rates. The telltale test for juice feed is to saturate the coil and vape. If it maintains, then it's feeding enough juice. You find the top end wattage by increasing wattage until the coil and wick start drying out. Reduce wattage to the point where it feeds enough juice to maintain the vape you want.

I vape about 10 watts on a Kayfun most of the time. That's enough power to mimic a full flavor Marlboro in vapor production. All I'm trying to do it recreate the feel of my prior smoking habit (without the Cancer and Emphysema risk).
