How to check resistance

Hello all I am getting nice results with this iatty now but want to verify how to check resistance. Do you place probes between just the resistance wire? Or can you just measure a lenth such as 1.250'' for 3ohm on 36G wire? Or Check from non resistance wire to other end and trim? I seem to get different values when I check after assembly. Any input Thanks.

Ok thanks I also forgot to subtract for the meters resistance I got lucky with a couple I made. This thing is great I love the way it's built too nice and sturdy.
