About to break this bad boy in tomorrow.
Smoktech 3.5ml Dual Coil Tank (DCT)

If you're a regular user of these I'd love your input or tips on your own personal maintenance for them. This will be my first time using one. Before I used only vision clearomizers and would top them off for about 2 days and then rinse them out. quite often would dump .5 ml of gunky liquid.
-Will the liquid in these tanks do that after a few days?
-Site reads something like "should last 2-3 weeks if kept properly filled" --what does this mean? That seems gross to me to just keep refilling with same carto in for 2-3 weeks?
-how do I clean them and how often? Do I rinse the carto and the tank out with hot water?

Thanks:blush:

I've used these a few times, and my way of cleaning them and keeping good maintenance has worked for me. I will use an ultrasonic cleaner- I'll run it through it for a few times and blow in it; then let it sit over night.. in the morning, i'll run it again and blow in it to push out all the left over gunky stuff. I'll again let it dry during the day in front of a fan. (I have a lasko fan that I push it in the grills of it to enhance air flow for better drying.

To be straight- this is an extremely long proccess. And well, they are nice these bad boys are made to be used once and tossed. We are all pushing the limits of them to pinch every penny we got. Good luck, I'm sure someone will have a better way of doing this in a timely matter! :p

i only use these. i usually get about 10-15ml worth out of life of them. i find that while there may be some color change to the liquid in that duration, it's not as skunky as a clearomizer.
when i'm ready to toss the carto i just disassemble the tank and wash in soapy water.
i've never had much luck with cleaning and reusing the cartos themselves. some people have luck with a water rinse, blowing out, then dehydrating at a low temp 225F in the oven.

I thought this was a tank cleaning thread and wondered what I was missing, I mean they're generally just clear (or colored) tubes with end caps. I just use a small bottle brush with hot soapy water. If the thread was really for cleaning carto's, there are a lot of "how-to's" available and my guess is they are all about equally successful, or not. I've found that I can actually salvage a used carto by soaking in alchohol for about an hour then boiling them in water twice for about 15 minutes, changing the water of course between boilings. I have so far been able to salvage about 2/3 of the used carto's this way. But, they never seem to last quite as long as a fresh one. I also never try to clean one twice. I'm honestly not really sure it's worth the effort.

Haha the title did sound like a demo. No it's just me, asking questions about everything all the time. thanks everyone, i didn't notice any responses. I was thinking of maybe buying a bag of polyfill because it sounds the best financially, if it is appropriate for the cartos in this DCT system anyhow.
All the replacing and stocking up keeps catching me off guard as well, always a bit too late. And when I see "2-3 weeks" on the site, I don't like really getting 2-3 days out of something. I also worry about germs more than the average human.

Unless you are REALLY a tinker'er, I'd discard the idea of trying to clean your cartos. It just isn't worth all the effort. I use several Smoketech DCT tanks, each with different juices, and I get at least 2-3 tank refills with each carto. The leftover juice before refilling doesn't get quite as dark and gunky looking as the clearos do. Really depends upon how dark the original juice is, or if it is a thicker viscosity to begin with. Cartos are relatively cheap to replace, discounts are available if you buy packs.

If you decide to buy pre-punched cartos, good idea to get some in one, two, or even three holes, depending upon the viscosity of your juices. I get mine directly from Smoktech.

In addition to what the previous posters have said, I HIGHLY recommend you pick up a tank filling tool, such as Big Daddy Vapor's Slap Yo Moma or similar tool from another website. It is designed to protect the o-rings in the endcaps from the sharp edges of your carto when assembling or tearing down your tank. Bad o-rings lead to leaky tanks, and I would imagine are a challenge to replace. The tool also make adding juice to the tank a breeze, as it totally covers the carto top to prevent juice from getting into the carto top. An excellent tool that all carto tank owners should have.

I also stick a toothpic in the air hole of the carto top to keep juice out when prepping the carto for assembly. Juice in the airhole can cause flooding. I saturate the polyfill until it looks like a slushy.

You'll have to decide whether to buy pre-punched (drilled) cartos, punch your own with your own carto punch, or slot them with a power dremmel tool. Choice is pretty much personal preference.
