A few ways.... You can take the whole atty unit - small cylinder with the spike, coil and put it in a vodka bath (preferably 151 proof, uncolored, unflavored -ie. cheap vodka - I use Galens) ... and leave it there for about a half hour, take it out let it dry on a paper towel. That's the easiest and since when I was using them I had made some bulk purchases so they were only @$3 a piece. When the draw got too tight - I'd
throw them in vodka and after about
three cleanings, I'd pitch them. They'd last for a couple of months that way.
The more 'extreme' would be to take off the spike plate - carefully... because the wicking 'fluff' next to the coil can be stuck on the coil, so as you raise the spike plate make sure the wick is not attached - if so you can take small scissors to cut it away or an exacto knife. When I did this, I always soaked in vodka first to prevent this sticking. You can then clean up the coil directly with a bic lighter - hold the cylinder with some needle nose pliers.... also hit the wick with the lighter, then soak all in vodka to get rid of the ash.
Some will tell you to dry burn the coil with the batt. I don't recommend but it might be worth a try for you. Again, if you dry burn - soak in vodka after.
