Actually if you still have the stock silica wick in the coil, you probably DO need the flavor wick.. Pretty sure the only reason those are in there is for some extra 'padding' to keep the chimney from flooding. If you pull em out theres a nice gap in the holes above the regular wick. A regular strand of cotton wick will swell up once its full of juice and takes care of any of those problems..

Rebuilding the coils seems alot harder than it actually is. I was kinda scared at the whole thing until the first time I did it about a month or so ago.. After seeing how much better it was than the stock coils/wicks, I ended up ripping em out of all the unused ones I had and redid my entire batch.. A 4/5 wrap 32ga micro coil in there hits between 1.8-2.0 ohms and blows away Kanger's own work.. Theres tons of how-to's around here and on the internet. Just take it slow and youll get it. In the span of a few weeks or so I went from buying Kanger heads to rebuilding my PT2, straight to the world of twisted wire coils in my Kayfun Lite.. The toughest part about all of it is just the tiny bit of space you have to work with in the head, but thats fairly easy as long as you leave your coil on the drill bit and use that as a guide while you set it back in the head..

Ok so with no flavor wick and the stock in-coil wick... I'm not having any sputtering problems, but the flavor is really light. I think temperature might be a factor, it's been around 45 degrees today which is the coldest it's really been for quite awhile. Not sure if I mind the light flavor though, maybe it'll inspire me to go through my juice a little slower. Lol. :)
Thanks for all the help, everyone. Still not ready to tackle building my coils yet lol but I'm feeling a little more comfortable about playing with the wicks now.

If you have a few coils just search you tube for rip trippers protank microcoil build and have a go. It is way easy and nothing to be scared of.

That's what I did too when I first started.
I just dryburned the coil with the wick inside, and added cotton wick on top; too much cotton ends up blocking the air.
After a few times doing that, eventually the wick inside tends to fray and fall apart.
At that point you pick at it with a tweezers and get it out; a little soaking in hot water will help it get out easy if it's gunked up; or dryburning should also work.
Then you thread your own cotton through; with some trial and error, you figure out how much cotton to use.
After you do that, you find that you don't need to put wicks on top, but it still is usefull to have something on top the coil so that it doesn't short out on the top spire when you put the spire back on.

Harbor Freight sells a tweezer kit that has 6 different sizes that are good for ecig use. The tips are hand ground to come together flat and tight.

Their low cost multimeter is in use by countless vapers. I have about 6 of these scattered at strategic points around the house, upstairs, downstairs, basement, laundry room, and and one in each vehicle. You can pick them up for $3 and change when they are on sale. I have better meters, but these are handy and capable enough for quick use where you need it.

Everyone needs a jeweler's eye loop to clip onto their glasses when recoiling.
