I tried twice last night and kept getting this horrible burnt taste.

everywhere im reading people say the prefer the cotton.

I should mention I was using the old coils from a protank not fresh (Im aware this may be the issue)

im just curious if that is why or if I did something wrong.

I boilded it in a pot of water dryed it and wraped the coil 4 times it said it was 1.7 ohms unless it was screwed all the way down but still not to tight then said 0.0 ohms.

I wouldn't think so, but I'm not familiar with the pro tank. Did you fire it? The problem may actually be with your multi-meter or maybe the wire was touching the side of the atty. That would short it out which is essentially what no resistance is. I would suggest putting the coil back in your atty and checking the resistance again, see if you can replicate the issue.

Don't wind your coil around the wick too tightly. If rethreading with new wick into an oil coil, again, not too much cotton. Cotton expands when wetted. My cotton wicks will easily slide back and forth through the coil and I get very good results.

When starting with a new wick, start at a lower power and gently increase the power. This allows the wick to break in.

this was the issue. Teach me to post while dealing with toddlers running around lol.

I think scalewiz nailed it. You may want to check out that video I mentioned and see how super x does it.

I am pretty sure the only cotton they boil is the yarn. From what I understand the cotton from cotton balls they just use. To me though cotton always tastes a little funky when it's fresh. After about a tank it gets better. Although if it is under wicking for the power you are putting through the coil, you will get dry hits which do taste burnt. What type of device are you using this on? At what voltage?

Try cutting the amount of cotton that you are using in half. Seriously. It will make you think you aren't using enough. I was having horrible problems with a micro coil and cotton on my KFL and got some good advice:
Use very little cotton. I shaped it with my fingers only for the purpose of getting it round in shape, not compressing it at all. Twist only the tip of one end so you can pass it through the coil. What is in the coil should be fluffy, not compressed. Cut off the twisted end and cut to length. First time you will swear it's not enough cotton.

The problem (if it is the same as mine), is that when the cotton swells when wet. If you compress a bunch then insert in coil it swells and is choked off by the coil that is now too small for the amount of cotton you used. A very minimal amount will still swell up and amply supply juice to your coil. A choked wick will not impart flavor from your juice and you will taste a harsh cottony flavor, it won't wick well and will partially burn the wick once dry. Uber-nastiness harsh flavor. Remove 1/2 your cotton = Holy smokes where you been all my life?

The hardest part of the process is estimating how much cotton you want/need to start with, because it is natural to just squish/roll/compress it to make what you have fit. Resist that urge and pull some off.
