How to prepare silica wick?

Is there anything special you do to it before rebuilding your coils and rewicking?

I either boil or burn the wick to clean it up. Burning is quicker/easier but may leave some soot on it.

burning it works for me.....i burn the coil and wick with a butane torch.......

I do nothing. No flaming or washing or boiling of either the silica wick or the wire. Just build. Sometimes the first few puffs taste a bit funky but if it really bothers you then don't inhale the first few. Seriously, don't worry about it too much.

You really don't have to do anything to it, but I've found that if I take my little hand torch...they're used by chef's..and burn it till it glows white, it really speeds up the break in time. The wick will be a tad stiff after this since you've melted the smallest fibers, but it will quickly get soft again as you bend it a bit.
