Personally I twist it to help taper the end for ease to get it started in the coil, I untwist it a little to keep it from getting caught up between the wraps. If its too tight to pull through, I remove some so it passes through easily. Once I trim it up, I fluff it and tick it to the well on my origen clone.

Keeping it on the loose side makes it easier to remove when the wick needs to be replaced but not coil.

But in the end, it's all preference on what YOU like. Give both a try.

Doesn't depend on the ohm of the coil and the wattage? I tried several times after watching youtubes but it seems everytime I use less cotton I end up with burnt cotton. I use 1.2 - 1.8 and have a fair enough cotton where it barely pulls. Then I fluff out the ends and cut to the outside base, then tuck with both rdas and abas. I spent 3 weeks trying everything and this worked the best for me overall. Maybe I doing something wrong but I hate the taste of burnt cotton.
